Pretty much the perfect observation. Iāve said numerous times in the past year that being more direct is the way to go. In terms of possession leaders and various passing statistics, Leicester, Southampton, West Brom, Swansea and Norwich rank highly in pretty much every metric. Itās been a average to shit start for every single one of those teams. The top six currently consists of⦠Coventry - 2nd for direct speed Middlesbrough - Joint best defence in the league Millwall - 2nd for forward pass% Bristol City - 3rd for direct speed Stoke - Joint best defence in the league Charlton - 1st for forward pass% Leicester City donāt come close in any of those metrics. Iāve watched a few videos from the Norwich fan channels in recent weeks, everything they are saying about their team is pretty much a carbon copy of ourselves. Boring to watch, soft mentality, all possession but do nothing with it, was some of the comments made on one of the Norwich fan channels yesterday. Remind you of anyone? As I said in this thread yesterday, if weāre not careful, weāll end up like Norwich in a season or two.

Whether youāre Marti in or Marti out, what weāre currently seeing is years of mismanagement coming home to roost. Weāre not the only Championship club experiencing the same problems, Southampton are getting pelters, while Norwich seem like an even shitter version of ourselves. Nothing changes until the culture changes. Keep following the wrong trends and producing shit recruitment, weāll end up where Norwich currently are in a season or twoās time.

After the summer, Iām officially done with hipster names like Will Still. We need a culture shift, thereās only one man for thatā¦

Comparing statistics to the 23/24 season, the pace of play in the Championship has certainly picked up. Under Maresca our direct speed was 1.61, making us the fifth slowest. Under Cifuentes itās currently 1.74, but weāre currently the joint fourth slowest team in the league actually along with Middlesbrough, but a large factor to Middlesbroughās good start to the season is their defensive work. As myself and others have pointed out, both in attack and defensive, some of our current statistics are seriously shoddy. Fatawu currently leads our xG statistic, but of Championship players he just about squeezes on Optaās first page in 49th place. It evidently shows we canāt keep relying on Fatawu to score a worldie every week. Bloody Jannik Vestergaard ranks 2nd for us for xG, thatās just laughable. If these metrics continue, we have a mid-table finish written all over us.

I think thereās a few worrying factors we are currently seeing, but in terms of the last paragraph and the midfield, not replacing Ndidiās attributes could hurt us in the long run imo. In terms of defensive duels this season, of midfielders in the Championship⦠Skipp ranks 52nd James ranks 76th Soumare ranks 85th Winks ranks 94th This is from a list of 96 players. For possessions won, our midfielders donāt fare much better either. Midfielders not doing the business on transition just exposes our mistake ridden centre backs. Luckily if you believe in xG, weāve conceded less than expected, but we rank as the 7th worst team in the Championship in that statistic, that needs drastic improvement, otherwise it will probably catch up with us in the long run. I think our play has become predictable, teams donāt fear us nowadays when they perhaps did in 23/24. Is this team also physical and athletic enough, I also have my concerns regarding those aspects.

I said numerous times during the Premier League season that we failed to get with the trends. Counter attacks, fast breaks and generally being more direct was the name of the game last season, yet Steve Cooper thought it would be a good idea to want Premier League experience in Ayew and Reid. This season whether Premier League or Championship, all the talk has been about how teams are transferring to a more direct style, but looking at our statistics, it seems yet again weāre not following the right trends under Cifuentes. Coventry are top, Bristol City have started well too, they currently sit 2nd and 3rd for direct speed. For that statistic we currently rank 20th. Charlton and Millwall have started well too, they currently rank 1st and 2nd for forward pass%. For that statistic we also rank 20th. The two teams who rank 1st and 2nd for 10+ pass sequences and build up attacks happen to be Leicester City and Southampton. Could both teams struggles be down to Championship opposition starting to work those teams out š¤ Going more direct is becoming a useful tool, but it seems we arenāt delving into it enough. Weāre still concentrating on being a ponderous possession team.
-
āWe missed the transitionā āTracking back should be betterā If you want to rectify those two issues, then donāt go starting a Winks/Soumare combo who lack defensive nous. But I think weāre also seeing the facts that we havenāt replaced Ndidiās attributes.

Looking forward to Luke Thomas turning into Ben Chilwell by getting scared to take a throw in. -
As I said in the Cifuentes out thread, itās just years of mismanagement catching up with us. This is the most unlikeable Leicester City squad Iāve seen since 07-08. Weāve gone into a Championship season with some players who donāt want to be here, we have no natural goalscorer, we have no leadership, we donāt even have a bloody recognised set piece taker. How this squad has been assembled is a fvcking shambles.

So far heās gone against the principles he promised. Our attacking statistics scream mid table. Some of our defensive data is almost as bad as some teams near the relegation zone. We donāt really press as a team, we rank 24th for pressing sequences. Weāve seen this script before, we are just too predictable to play against. Possession, possession, possession with hardly anything to show for it. Our squad is also full of unlikeable players and lacks leadership. If Marti went, who the hell do you turn to though? Russell Martin? Gary OāNeil? Years of mismanagement is finally catching up with us, if weāre not careful, another 05-08 type era will be on the horizon.
