foxfanazer Posted 18 April 2015 Posted 18 April 2015 Don't know if this has been discussed elsewhere but I think our backroom staff and Pearson deserve huge credit for this side of things. It's quite remarkable how fit and healthy our squad looks at this stage of the season Jamie Vardy's energy is ridiculous and Cambiasso is putting in 90 minutes most weeks. It really couod prove to be a big factor in survival

Hollism Posted 18 April 2015 Posted 18 April 2015 It was talked about a lot last season. You're right about the back room team doing a great job, but did you not think Vardy looked knackered towards the end of today?

I think anyone would be knackered after putting in a shift like Vardy did today
TheUltimateWinner Posted 18 April 2015 Posted 18 April 2015 I couldn't believe it when Ulloa got subbed off and Vardy didn't, he's such a workhorse, I don't know how he does it, to make the blistering runs he does at the end of the game

Captain... Posted 18 April 2015 Posted 18 April 2015 In terms of fitness then we are obviously doing something right with Cambiasso coming here without much of a preseason now bossing it for 90 minutes on a weekly basis... ...but is there a downside to sports science? I was watching that fantasy football club the other day cos Nige was on it, so was 'arry. Now he said he was speaking to a young coach about stuff and the sports science thing came up, now according to 'arry this coach was working on a young lad's crossing and he was just getting him to whip crosses in when the sports science lads came running out and told him to stop it. The reason being that sports science says drills should be six with one foot six with the other then stop. Now I know that 'arry is a notorious liar, but it could explain why we are so awful at corners, and always have been under Pearson, players like Knocky and Mahrez and James are just not trained in the way I would train someone, find a weakness, taking corners and just drill it into them how to whip in a dangerous corner, look at Schlupp too.

I don't think it's quite true what Harry was saying about 6 crosses each leg, but he is right in that there are parameters set by the Sport Science and Physio's at a football club. Professional footballers during the season are walking a tight rope in regards to injury and require specific individual maintenance. Older players such as Cambiasso for example will have the standard 48 hour recovery protocol that the rest of the team has plus an additional day in the week where he doesn't train with the team and instead does some form of low impact work. The issue of working on a specific attribute such as taking corner's is that it makes the player more susceptible to injury because of a high volume of repetitive motion, placing stress on the same muscles/ligaments/tendons over and over again. Players bodies becomes so fatigued through the course of a season that whipping a ball in 50 times at the end of a training session is a massive red flag to the back room staff. The time for that sort of skill development is post-season after a few weeks recovery or once pre-season has started and players don't have matches to recover from. It's a double edged sword but keeping a player injury free has to be the main priority and old school ideas of constant practice are slowly being eradicated from the game.
Captain... Posted 19 April 2015 Posted 19 April 2015 I'm not saying it is right or wrong, but it could explain why we are so bad at corners and set pieces, and why Pearson and co don't have them practicing them as much as maybe other coaches do.
