No-one deserves to die

No-one deserves to die (Except obviously people bring war, terrorism e.t.c to this world)

but what was this prat thinking?

DAD Peter Mourier was killed when he let his seven-year-old son drive at 70mph on the motorway, an inquest heard.

Divorced Peter, 50, offered the wheel to David  ignoring the pleas of his two older boys in the back.

Front passenger David leaned over to help steer from lane to lane.

The family’s Rover 216 hit an object in the middle lane, went off the road and hit a tree.

Mr Mourier died instantly as the crumpled bonnet crushed his skull.

Amazingly, sons Joseph, 15, nine-year-old Isaac and David escaped serious harm in the darkness.

The hearing was told Mr Mourier had been drinking before the family headed home to Kempsey, Worcs, on the M5 in Gloucs.

It was said he regularly let David perch on his lap to help drive.

But Joseph said he warned his father this time: “This is dangerous, we could crash or kill someone.â€Â

His dad replied “Don’t be stupidâ€Â.

Accident investigators said cleaner Mr Mourier, who was just under the drink-drive limit, would probably have been able to avoid crashing if he had full control.

Coroner Alan Crickmore told the Gloucester inquest: “When a child is allowed to do something so excessively foolish, he should be exonerated of blame.â€Â

Verdict: Accident.

I did drive a couple of times when I was young with my dad in a car park, but that is a car park. What was this bloke thinking? Fair enough i'm against drink driving (Although I have done it 1 or 2 times) but surly you'd rather have someone who was just under the drink-driving limit rather than a kid of age 7 on a public road, let alone a motorway! :nono:

What a twonk.

Like you say, noone deserves to die, but some people are asking for it.

Probably one of those that think they can steer with one finger.

Ex-Grand Prix driver Gunnar Nilsson could. Went around Brands Hatch with him once in a Lotus Eclat and he steered the car with his thumb while turning to chat with two or us sat in the back. Barely slipped below 150mph , except at the corners, and the car continued along an inch-perfect line. Daft thing to do I know, even as a demo, but a memory to last a lifetime.

Fair enough but I'm not a driver. My point is there would not be the same hazzards apart from going faster. Didnt he hit an object in the road? Not concentrating and let the car veer it seems.

Disgusting, serves him right. What if there were other drivers on the road? There could have been other innocent casualties apart from him. Us drivers drive on the roads believing that other drivers on the road can drive properly and safely, and have the common sense not to do something stupid that could put the safety of others at risk.

I feel sorry for his kids, but it is difficult to protect somebody from their own stupidity. :(

Hmmm... just pondering on the title of this thread...

No-one deserves to die...

but we all do (sooner or later)?!?!?!

Sorry if you hadn't realised this earlier...

Divorced, 50, and drunk. Hmmm....

Just occurred to me that there is another way of reading this story...

We don't know what his state of mind was (he might have been depressed and on medication, then have got drunk on top of it - obviously NOT a good idea!).

While his actions were abominable, we just don't know enough... and it's not up to us to judge.

I just feel sorry for the kids and anyone else that might have been injured.

Also, if he was indeed in this condition, how come he had custody (if temporary) of his kids?

How come he was allowed to drive under those conditions?

The article doesn't dig deep enough... it just seems to aim to cause indignation in the reader. It seems to have worked from that viewpoint.

it is also my point of view that kids playing on railway lines should not be stopped, if they are stupid enough to go on there then so what?

Uhh controversial !!!
