Players who faded away

Recommended Posts

John O'Neil's another one that left for big money (at the time) and then almost immediately broke his leg like Jones and Eadie.

Others I've wondered about, but I'm far too old probably, are Jimmy Willis and Jari Rantanan

Also, thanks to the poster who referenced Robert Jones and the away day at Oldham.  That and Fulham were my first ever 2 away-days with Leicester - was so excited for both of them and they were just fantastic.  Not a bad start!!

Michael Ball - another one cap wonder for England

John Pantsil - one of Ghana's most capped players

Gelson Fernandes - 50+ caps for Switzerland

Jeffrey Bruma - Dutch international

Leon Crncic - 3rd in the Slovenian 1st division with Rudar Velenje

Moreno - playing for the 4th biggest team in Portugal. Still no idea who they are.

Michael Lamey - product of Ajax academy

Alex Tunchev - 2 time Champion of Bulgaria

Huge names. Absolutely huge.

Can hardly claim Fernandes and Bruma's careers have nose dived, unless nose dived means they don't play in the best country ever 2k15

I'd never wish anything bad on Brian Little. Shamelessly failed by the board - some of whom are are still 'gracing' the directors box today - he expressed a desire to go to a club where he'd made his name as a player. The board who failed to back him, then leaked details of the whole affair to the press and turned the fans who idolised him against him. The smug look on that cnut Martin George's face as Little got dog's abuse from 20,000 people makes my stomach turn. Another one who turned the club round after Pleat, took us to Wembley 3 times and got us up on an absolute joke of a wage bill.

I'd say if you're naming managers that nosedived, you'd be better looking at McGhee. There's a guy who deserves abuse and failure. He's gonna take over United after Van Gaal though surely........

Paul Reid. Started his career with us well and scored some spectacular goals for us. Nosedived after a couple of seasons culminating gifting Forest then Millwall a goal in consecutive games and was not seen again. Left us for Huddersfield I think.

Also Stef Oakes. Was a regular under O'Neill and did not look out of place in the Prem. As soon as Taylor came in he never had a look in. Can't even remember where he ended up after us.

Jon Stevensons a PT now if I recall right. Used to see him down my gym alot.

I played in the same youth sides as Jonny from U11s through to U16s - huge talent but stopped growing at about 14 / 15 (seriously). If he'd gained a few inches in height to match his physical strength I'm sure he'd have a had a very decent professional career. He was unstoppable when we were at Epworth Forest.

i would put frank mc clintock in my all time managers. A legend as a player for arsenal. Woeful manager. Did he ever manage another club?

Didn't McLintock get in possibly one of the worst players ever to wear city blue, Lammie Robertson; he had already faded away before he joined us, so maybe shouldn't be mentioned on this thread!
