Rincewind Posted 20 November 2015 Author Posted 20 November 2015 Yes they do. You can donate food, money or your time, working in helping cook, clean and feed!! I don't know where the Sikh Temples are in Leicester. I live in the Highfields area but can travel via public transport. It is a myth about different faiths not getting along with each other. The Highfield Centre has a drop in service run by Muslims with anyone welcome and there is a Multi-Faith group in Leicester. As an atheist I look at the person first and am not interested what religion they are. If they do not preach at me I am fine with them. Matt, I understand your concerns. You could get unlucky and be seated next to an undesirable type. But I may not be there.

There around 7 SIkh temples, the closest one to Highfields is Guru Tegh Bahadur on east park road, near green lane road, google it. My local, when I lived in Leicester was Holy Bones, across the road from Holiday Inn, near town, it has a Sikh Museum aswell.

It really isn't unfortunately, tens of thousands of people die every year because of it.
Guest MattP Posted 20 November 2015 Posted 20 November 2015 Matt, I understand your concerns. You could get unlucky and be seated next to an undesirable type. But I may not be there. Ken nothing would give me more pleasure than sharing a meal next to you, you know that. Are you going?

My local, when I lived in Leicester was Holy Bones, across the road from Holiday Inn, near town, it has a Sikh Museum aswell. I went to the Tegh Bahadur last month for a wedding. As the only white person in there they made me feel really welcome and gave me some nice food. Though I was worried someone might steal my shoes and putting the handerkchief on ruined my hair.

Mike Oxlong Posted 20 November 2015 Posted 20 November 2015 I'm down on my luck as I trod in some dogshit today. Count me in for the free dinner please.
The Blur Posted 20 November 2015 Posted 20 November 2015 How will you know if people who turn up are genuine or just a bunch of freeloaders?

Rincewind Posted 20 November 2015 Author Posted 20 November 2015 I don't think they will be too bothered. They have put the message out to people that work within that sector. I posted on here because I don't know how affluent people are on FT. There may be someone because of pride who won't want to admit that they are struggling.I have been asked if I was going. I am not sure. TBH I would feel a little guilty taking something if I did not need it. The Junk Food Project is open to anyone and it is not specifically to feed the homeless. The aim is to highlight food waste it is why it is also pay as you feel which means no one sees what you contribute unlike foodbanks where people know you are going because you are struggling. You can also pay by volunteering in different ways. There is some-one who paints and displays his work.Another walks around playing a violin. All the food has to be used so it does not matter what one does. If Matt is serious about going I may pop along. I won't feel so bad knowing someone with his wealth is taking advantage of a free meal. (joke)
kyleolly Posted 20 November 2015 Posted 20 November 2015 I've been to a couple of open days at a church on Aylestone road this year and they gave out free roast dinners, puddings and coffee just goes to show religion aint all bad
