The "compared to the first half of the season" thread

With 39 points at the halfway point, Claudio's target of 79 points means we need to pick up 1 point more in the second half than we did in the first. Don't know if it's been done already, but here's showing how our points tally compares against the same teams between the first and second half of the season. Numbers in brackets are the running total.

Bournemouth - 1st half: 1pt, 2nd half: 1pt (0)

Tottenham - 1st half: 1pt, 2nd half: 3pts (+2)

Aston Villa - 1st half: 3pts, 2nd half: 1pt (0)

Stoke - 1st half: 1pt, 2nd half: 3pts (+2)

Liverpool - 1st half: 0pts, 2nd half: 3pts (+5)

Man City - 1st half: 1pt, 2nd half:

Arsenal - 1st half: 0pts, 2nd half:

So we are 5 points better off than we were in the first half of the season, based on games against the same opposition. Even if we lose against both Man City and Arsenal, we will still be 4pts better off.

That's the same as what I put, only with the points difference per opponent added, isn't it?

Yup, my bad, I got confused the first time I read it, so I tidied it up for you

I prefer to look at is as an average pts per game rather than what we did in the corresponding fixture. Otherwise in the last 12 games we'll be expected to W10 D2 L0.

First half of the season we averaged 2.05pts per game

Second half is 2.2pts

2.1pts is what we need to get 40pts in the second half of the season so we're ahead of the curve.

To say ahead of the curve we'll need 4pts in the next two which I'm sure we all would take.  :D

That could  well be what it takes to win the title, comparing the reverse fixture means that the harder games are compared with the harder games, if we only got 1 point from Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City games then it would be a shame, but it would correlate with the first half of the season so negate the negative effect of that run.

Really nothing matters other than points compared to other teams. Equalling our run rate, or getting as many points as the first half of the season will not mean anything if Man City win all their remaining games and take the title.

We just keep on plugging away taking each game as it comes and see where we end up...

A bit too early for that, most teams still have to play each other.

That's true, it's just the start but would be interesting to check back on every couple of games.

After the next 2 games you would expect us to  have the easiest run in not having to play anyone else in the top 4, and only 4 of the top 10 although we have played Villa which will bring our average down.

just thinking out aloud and after our next two games we will have 12 remaining. 7 at home and 5 away. after the arsenal game, we have a two week break. would be great to still be sitting top for that fortnight to keep the pressure on citeh and arsenal. I don't think spurs are under any pressure, even if they manage to get to first place.  so important to not lose on Saturday.

Ignor me, we dropped 2 points against Villa didn't we. ****ing Villa, apparently the best team we've played recently!

Spurs are under pressure.

The last time they won anything apple and blackberry were better known as fruit.

They won the league cup a few seasons ago

I actually think that f they keep Kane it then they could push more than the other two.

Big game citeh Spurs next weekend

We will, of course, still be top after 26 games!
