I didnt expect him to turn us into world beaters but I did expect him to iron out stupid mistakes and bad results against teams much poorer than ourselves but he hasnt done that.

Even Alex Ferguson was lucky to survive his first three seasons at Old Trafford before turning it around there. The problem is for CL is that he will not have three seasons to turn things around here. Fans are walking away from the club NOW and it will take a lot more than the current mediocrity to tempt them back.

They're not doing that and despite a change in personnel to apparent non-mercenaries I don't see the improvement that I dreamt of. I have no doubt that we have a squad of players able to play better football than the team Mickey left us with but it has not yet manifested itself regularly enough. After three straight wins, have the poll again.

I agree with you. Even though we're pretty average at the moment I can see a much brighter future but of course we're going to have to be patient. Last time we won promotion we had a squad that had mostly been together for atleast a season. If you look at our defenders we had players like Sinco, Matty Elliott and Gerry. They'd been together for a few seasons before the 2002/03 season and so already knew each others games inside out. Dickov and Deane were given the back end of the relegation season to forge a partnership and take abuse from some fans (Deane inparticular who went on to be one of our most important players in the promotion year). The fact that the squad had been together for a while and very few players were brought in during the summer must have helped us gain promotion. The problem was when we got up most of the players were too old to repeat their performances from the previous season. This rubbish about getting the right mixture of youth and experience means nothing to me. You could have a team of mostly old players, which we did in 2002/2003, and still win promotion if they know how to play with each other but the problem comes when you're actually in the Prem. Given time, I'm confident that this squad will learn how to play with each other better and will hopefully still be young enough to keep us in the Premiership when we get there.

Unsurpringly, most votes have fallen in the middle 3 choices, with only 15% having a strong opinion either way. What has surprised me slightly is the amount of "fairly happy" votes (52%). I thought that majority would have fallen in the middle section. For the record, I went with "fairly happy", but I've only been to one game this season so far (Sheff Utd, on TV ironically). It might have been interesting to separate the "regulars'" votes out, if it were possible to. £27 is a lot to spend on watching a team that's playing for a draw.

Rincewind Posted 18 September 2005 Posted 18 September 2005 I think it shows that most people realise thats its difficult to build a team in a very short time and just as difficult to judge the manager when hes in the process of building a team. I dont go regular so I do not merit a strong opinion one way or the other, but looking at posts on here and other forums, then filtering the completely OTT unconstructive ones I am able see how things are going as an outsider. :sleeping:

FNQ is Chandler's (less eloquent) alter-ego. I thought everyone knew this? In regard to the OP's poll/question... I'm fairly happy with what CL has done so far this season. It's obvious he's still experimenting with players and formations, which is something we should all expect to see continue for the next 10 games or so. To be honest, it's a bit early to be asking these typoe of questions, wait until nearer to Xmas, then we'll be in a better position to judge.
