random leicester number calling my phone

I keep getting calls from the below number. dont think its anything major since when you ring back it doesnt ring and it also comes up +44

 

the number is 0116 251 0598

if you try to call it back it says invalid number. got me worried it was the ticket office or something but they aint rang me back or left a message.

when you do it makes a high pitched beep and says "invalid number"

Is it a fax machine? I had that some time ago; my phone number was one digit away from the fax number of a local company. Someone trying to fax that company had written it down wrong and was continually trying to fax something to that company but obviously that fax was never going through and so they kept 'trying' to fax it without checking whether the number was correct. When I called the number I got a weird beeping noise. Just a thought.

Cold callers can sometimes piggy back local numbers.

 

We had this at my work as lots of people were getting cold sales calls that looked like they were from my work number.

 

They assume (rightly) that you are more likely to answer a local call than the normal 0870 etc numbers.

Or better still tell them to hold on a minute while you get the person then put the phone down and see how long you can keep them on the line for by keep telling them the person will be with them shortly.

I have a few where I pick up and they start with. Listen carefully this an important message........click. Goodbye.

I have had unknown numbers as missed calls. If they do not leave a message I delete and block..

My return message says leave name and reason for calling so if I know them I call back.

I find it frustrating when they do not leave a name. A friend did it who I had not added to my contacts sent a text 'Hey hope you are well' Could have been anyone.

You would be surprised how many companies and govt. agencies still use fax. Privacy, sign and return etc.. being a couple of reasons. The place that the person calling/faxing me was trying to get hold of in my case was the local police station.
