Team for QPR

Recommended Posts

I think we'll win tomorrow but I doubt it will be a pretty game because from what I recall QPR play the most disgusting football in the division and it's hard for teams to get the ball down and play. Last season they were the worst team to visit The Walkers in my opinion and the game was dreadful, we had to keep hoofing it to neutralise the way they were hacking and hoofing.

If we can play our own game and never let them settle then I think the 3 points will be in the bag, but I can quite easily see them frustrating us and then nicking a goal from a set piece just like teams have done many times against us in the past season or so. It's essential we get an early goal like we did against Sheff Wednesday and then it's essential we push on and kill the game before QPR start launching the missiles from defence up to those 7ft strikers they've got.

I hope i'm proved wrong and it's a fluent game and we rip them to pieces like we are capable of, but nothing is certain at Leicester.

My team would be as follows:

Douglas

Maybury

McCarthy

Nils

Sheehan

Sylla

Gudjonsson

Williams

Hughes

Hume

de Vries

Subs: Elvis, Tiatto, Henderson, Gerrbrand/Stearman, Kisnorbo

I'll go for a 1-0 win to Leicester with Iain Hume opening his account.

Douglas

Maybury / McCarthy / Johansson / Sheehan

Sylla / Hughes / Gudjonsson / Jase

Hume / de Vries

- Sheehan needs to be given a run of games at left back as that's the only way he'll improve. I just hope that Levein doesn't put Gilbert back in there.

- Draft Hughes in to the centre with Joey, as I believe that's the best pairing we have at the moment.

- Hamill hasn't impressed me so far, so put Jase out there.

- Hume needs to start now - I'd like to see him play upfront with Elvis, but I can't see de Vries being dropped.

because he is scoring. he is doing job and people are still on his back, i just dont get either why everyone is up Hammonds arse, because he hasnt done anything since being here.

Douglas,

Maybury, Stearman, Dublin, Sheehan;.

Sylla, Hughes, Joey;

Hammond, MDV, Hume.

Subs: McCarthy, Williams. Wilcox, Kisnorbo, Henderson.

Leicester to win 3-1 (MDV, Hume, Dublin)

I've gone 4-3-3 to take heed of Levein's natural caution, to retain sufficient goal threat cos we're light on genuine strikers and because I feel both full-backs are capable of assisting in attack while Hume has the energy to assist in midfield.

Dublin looked an excellent defensive organiser against Sheffield, Sheehan worked well to his commands and has a key position in providing attacking passes from the left (which would otherwise be few unless Wilcox played).

I thought long and hard about Nils or Stearman and felt it's time Stearman got his chance in the centre.

His additional pace, urgency and attacking prowess gave him the slight edge especially as others clearly rate him above Sheehan and our other youth prospects which means he must be more than good.

Sylla is the only choice for the right (unless we don't bother and leave Maybury to run the whole flank which I don't fancy or get Hammond to assist out right which will waste his striking energy). Hughes is a must and Joey has had an excellent run as defensive midfielder and should be told to watch his positional discipline in that role.

Three three strikers are chosen because I don't see any as really natural goalscorers so with the extra man there might be more space for all of em and Hammond, in particular, might benefit from this. I always saw Hume as fitting into the space behind the main pair anyway and feel he's too good to leave out.

A key is whether Sheehan is ready yet to assume the attacking part of the full-backs role at first team level and whether he can judge the times to go and the times to stay.

Stearman has played a dual role at centre-back with Sheehan and well knows his capabilities so could probably help him out if necessary along with Joey so there's plenty of energy around to make the risk a calculated but worthwhile one given that Wilcox is hardly likely to set the world on fire.

On top of that I still think Sheehan as a set-piece man is an important asset.

That selection gives us pace, versatility, energy, three genuine forwards (though not natural goalscorers) and potential goals from various others.

We also retain one specialist winger and, in Sheehan, a man who can naturally play the left flank. If he finds that too much there is the option of introducing Wilcox should we need slightly more attacking balance.

This leaves Williams out and he's got talent. But I cannot see us going 4-3-3 without an anchorman (Joey) and I see no sense not playing any winger at home because I don't believe it safe for both full-backs to do a whole flank on their own and have already detailed my reservations about Hammond helping with the job.

So either Joey or Williams gets left out and within that system I know what I'd get with Joey. There is enough creative ability in the other attacking players to make Williams sacrifice more logical than benching our only genuine anchor.

Four-three-three would easily become three-four-three with the players available or even two-five-three whih would be very attacking.

I am not on de Vries' back - if you care to look back on my previous comments regarding him, you'll see they are generally positive.

The reason I'd like to see Hammond and Hume upfront is that they'll offer us genuine pace. While de Vries does well holding the ball up and laying things off, that can also act as a handicap as it often slows down the attack. Playing two strikers with pace will ensure we can force the opposition back as they'll be wary of the threat.

de Vries will have to do more than score a couple of braces against poor opposition to cement his place in the team.

Interesting but I'd like to go with all three. Hammond and Hume might end up scurrying around like headless chickens without MDV to lay off the high balls but with two runners either side of him - I'd say that represented a pretty severe threat and certainly enough to get us our first League goal in over 270 minutes so I gather.

Can't imagine any manager will drop a striker who scores a brace which wins the game, who he's just made captain and is currently leading marksman in the club. Players can only score against who they're up against and, poor opposition or not, I don't recall many other scorers (including Hammond)..

Think I would pick the same basis of the team as the nature boy with only a few changes to counteract any threats QPR might pose. From what I can see of QPR they pose 3 threats; Sturridge upfront (his pace will be a problem against our back four), Furlong (our back four are still not dominant in the air) and a Lomas Bircham partnership in midfield (outbattling Williams and Gudjonsson).

For that reason I would pick the following team

Douglas

Maybury

McCarthy - Tough call to drop Johansson. Want to see how McCarthy performs alongside a vocal organiser

Dublin - To look after Furlong

Sheehan

Hughes

Gudjonsson

Williams

Tiatto - Will drift inside to add steel to midfield, although with both Hughes & Tiatto, might be too narrow

Hume - Get your first goal from your first start

De Vries

Subs: Henderson, Elvis, Nils-Eric, Sylla, Kisnorbo

(I'd give Gerrbrand a bit moretime to improve his math fitness before putting him on the bench)
