LCFCtotheprem Posted 1 November 2016 Posted 1 November 2016 Does anyone have any knowledge or links for summer internships for business/finance or economics? I have been looking for summer internships abroad however all of them seem to have a program fee of about £5000 which I am not willing to pay for an internship Thanks in advance
stevelcfc Posted 1 November 2016 Posted 1 November 2016 Currently doing the whole PTY stuff, never seen a placement yet that has a program fee, UK or abroad. Especially in the business/economics field, unpaid is common in Psych etc. Obviously its different for each uni but the careers portal (assuming you've got one) should have them all listed. Otherwise Linkedin, Milkround, ratemyplacement etc. or companies websites.
Webbo Posted 1 November 2016 Posted 1 November 2016 I thought they were making unpaid internships illegal?

Yeah, they are 'thinking' about it with a debate scheduled for Friday. If anything happens those firms who are currently offering unpaid internships will obviously only offer minimum wage though
ousefox Posted 1 November 2016 Posted 1 November 2016 Are you at uni? It shouldn't very difficult to find them online at all.
bmt Posted 1 November 2016 Posted 1 November 2016 What's your background/what are you looking for specifically?
LCFCtotheprem Posted 1 November 2016 Author Posted 1 November 2016 I'm at uni doing industrial economics. My dream job would link sport and business, but anything business related I am willing to try just to experience

Xen Posted 2 November 2016 Posted 2 November 2016 https://www.ratemyplacement.co.uk/search?show=jobs&duration=1,8 Plenty of paid summer internships on there. If you can, I'd wholly recommend doing a full year-long 'placement' though. You get so much more out of them as the company knows you'll stick around for a while so they'll invest in you more and give you more responsibilities. Summer placements are still good, but I found the really good stuff in my placement (Virgin Media) didn't kick off til about 2-3 months in. Any experience you can get before you graduate is invaluable, though. Whatever you go for, just make sure to involve yourself as best as you can and make an impression - they may well offer you a permanent role in advance for when you graduate. Happened to me in fact, although I turned it down to go with a different opportunity
