Samilktray Posted 3 November 2016 Posted 3 November 2016 Don't even think I've seen the average every day Muslim ever mocking Christianity or whatever. Louis Smith deffo likes Britain First on facebook to be making an arse of himself like this.
Captain... Posted 3 November 2016 Posted 3 November 2016 Also stop comparing this to mocking Christianity, Christianity is ours to mock, we are a Christian country and therefore we can say what we want about it, in the same way as Leicester fans we can take the piss out of Leicester, but if a Forest or Chelsea fan did the same they would get a slap. Islamaphobia, Anti-Semitism, Racism, homophobia are all treated differently to anti Christian remarks because they are the minority and the majority attacking the minority is bullying.

Like Huth playing cock or no cock on twitter, or like Smith's comments on a zoomed in photo of a 16 year old gymnasts arse. We don't get to decide what is considered offensive. Unlike Gray and Huth, what Smith did wasn't deemed serious enough to warrant an immediate ban, but after a warning about his behaviour before they felt they had no option. This is not related to hyper sensitivity around Islam, it is sporting bodies trying to protect their interests and the reputation of their sport. So there is a problem with hyper sensitivity, because otherwise they wouldn't have to 'protect their interest'? If there was a Muslim gymnast, you dressed as a Catholic priest for Halloween, and was picture praying, do you think there would be a ban?

There wasn't a ban for Louis Smith for what he did, and I don't think he was doing it for Halloween. If a gymnast was found to do anything deemed to bring the sport into disrepute they would be punished. I am not a spokesperson for the sporting body so you would have to ask them your hypothetical situation.

So we shouldn't EVER make a joke about Germans, the French, Americans or any other nationality because they're a minority in this country and it's bullying? Racism? Not acceptable. Homophobia? Not acceptable. But I don't care about religions. It's not a 'minority', it's a free choice and with any free choice it's open to criticism or a (non-threatening) joke because we're a secular country.
Dr The Singh Posted 3 November 2016 Posted 3 November 2016 14 minutes ago, Captain... said: Can you guarantee that? Do you have a video of Louis Smith or any other Gymnast mocking Christian prayer? You are right we wouldn't be having this conversation if he had been mocking Christianity and been banned because that doesn't fit the rhetoric of the day. Anti-Islamaphobia overreaction. Where was the thread defending Louis Smith's right to post pictures of 16 year old female gymnasts bottoms on the internet and make sexualised comments? Nobody cared that he got reprimanded for that. This ban is a result of it being a second offense, his mate didn't get banned because he had a clean record. Louis Smith got banned for 2 offenses, not just for mocking Islam, but for making sexualised/sexist/borderline paedophilic comments and mocking Islam. So did him and his mate go to 'understand the muslim community'? I find this all confusing!!

You are free to make jokes about whatever you want, but you have to accept the consequences, if you make jokes about Germans and someone from Germany smacks you, then you fully deserve. I don't know if I fully agree about Religions being a free choice, for many it is indoctrination that they are not able to escape, I am also not comparing this to you or me making jokes, we are not internationally renowned sports stars. Louis Smith is and should behave accordingly. I have also yet to see any videos of any sportsman mocking Christianity. So until he does then your point is moot.

Maybe you should go to Hyde Park and see some of the religious speakers mainly muslim openly criticise other religions, groups of people, races etc!! i think this an over reaction on all sides, we all got better things to think about...i'm going back to watching porn....oh wait, am I going to be repremanded for that I wonder??

Like India is a hindustan, a hindu country and hence the consitution reflects that, minorities such as Sikh are to my disgrace labelled hindu's.

The UK doesn't have a constitution and if they wrote one today it wouldn't say that it was a Christian nation.

We are a Christian country and the second we stop being one you will see an increase in Christianiphobia, at the moment Christianity is enshrined in our laws and political process, in our schools and many other areas of our life. When that stops Christianity becomes a minority and you will see a lot more outrage at anti-Christian sentiments.

What you're saying is if a Christian is offended by the comments or actions of others it doesn't matter but if you offend a Muslim it does. Surely that can't be right? We're all supposed to be equal in the eyes of the law.

Dilly ding, dilly dong!

I'm not saying what is right or wrong in the eyes of the law, I am saying the perception of the offense is different because Christianity is a part of our country and culture so we are mocking ourselves and not a foreign or minority culture. In Israel they make a lot of jokes and comments about Judaism that we as non Israeli's wouldn't be able to get away with.

Some Muslims in this country have been here for 3 or 4 generations, they're as British as you or I. Why are their feelings considered more important than a committed Christian?

That is not what I am saying, it is not on the individual level, on the individual level nobody deserves to be mocked for anything they are or believe in. There is a tradition and culture within the UK that makes it deemed less offensive to mock Christianity as a whole, that is not acceptable with regard other religions.
