Yellow Cards and Rotation for Upcoming Fixtures

Recommended Posts

Posted

Our upcoming fixtures are:

  • Watford away
  • Bruges home
  • Middlesbrough home
  • Sunderland away
  • Porto away
  • Man City home
  • Bournemouth away (midweek)
  • Stoke away

8 matches in 4 weeks.

Simpson and Huth are both on 4 yellows in the Prem. It could be disastrous for them to both pick up yellow in the same match and both be suspended for the next match. Would Amartey play in the back line, Wasilewski on the bench? Hopefully King, Mendy, and Drinkwater would all be fit. Yes, the yellow card accumulation rule changes after December, but I doubt they can both get to January without picking up another yellow, so some tactical yellows will be necessary.

Also, Slimani and Huth are both on 2 yellows in the CL. Three and they are suspended, no reset for the knockout phase. If we're comfortably winning against Bruges, do we get Slimani to pick up a 3rd yellow, have the dragon-slayer miss the Porto game, potentially risk finishing 2nd in the group? Or do we risk him picking up a yellow against Porto and miss our first match of the round of 16 (which will be after he gets back form AFCON)?

Anyway, so Claudio has some interesting choices to make, let's not be surprised for some rotation. And let's hope Hernandez and Morgan have been training together as CB partners, most people agree they didn't do well at Hull, but like it or not, we'll have to see it again... unless Claudio throws Amartey or Wasilewski in there instead.

So... I could see Hernandez starting at CB (in place of Huth) for Watford, and making sure Simpson picks up a yellow. Then Bruges. Then against Middlesbrough, Hernandez at RB, and making sure Huth picks up a yellow. Then a week's rest. Then Sunderland, Hernandez at CB again. Then Porto. Then Man City, Bournemouth, and Stoke.

I think you're over-thinking it lol.

How about Claudio just tells them to do their best not to get booked in any games so that they are available for all games?

If Simpson and/or Huth get suspended it's really going to show how poor our transfer activity was in the summer. Good grief.

Easier said than done.

I'm sure all the players do their best not to be booked, but it happens, and for Huth and Simpson it has happened 4 times in 11 games. Can they both go another 8 PL games without one? Doubt it. And do we want to risk them both getting a yellow in the same game?

Dont know about yellows, etc but our 8 winning game run starts next weekend.

All of those mentioned games are winnable, even a somewhat work-in-progress Man City and inconsistent Stoke at their place.

If we want to change fortunes around, the next month is judgement time already.
