Head Honcho Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 What, in your opinion, is the best ever guitar solo? Dunno about solo but Paul Weller strumming That's Entertainment-It just don't get any better then that
frenchy_lcfc Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 I think the best ever guitar solo! Is that man from Queen!! the one with the long Black hair, if you know wat i mean!
shen Posted 5 October 2005 Posted 5 October 2005 I think the best ever guitar solo! Is that man from Queen!! the one with the long Black hair, if you know wat i mean! What solo of his is great? Among my favourites are Gilmour's in Pink Floyd's 'Comfortably Numb' or even the classic 'Hotel Calfornia', or Dream Theater's John Petrucci in the intro of 'This dying soul'. But the ones that leave me in awe are Justing King's solo at the Larrivee club or Stevie Ray Vaughan's 12-string solo performed live at MTV unplugged...
Libertine Posted 6 October 2005 Author Posted 6 October 2005 Some great solos are: November Rain-Guns N Roses (Slash) Stairway To Heaven-Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page) Eruption-Van Halen (Eddie Van Halen)
TornadoShaunUK Posted 7 October 2005 Posted 7 October 2005 Some of my personal favourites [off the top of my head]... not necessarily all awe-inspiringly flashy solos.. Bon Jovi - 99 In The Shade Bon Jovi - Bed Of Roses Giant - Oh Yeah Giant - Stay Def Leppard - Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad?
Steven Posted 7 October 2005 Posted 7 October 2005 What, in your opinion, is the best ever guitar solo? Voodoo Chile (slight return) - Jimi Hendrix Freebird - Lynard Skynard
Deathside Posted 7 October 2005 Posted 7 October 2005 I can't decide between Extreme Noise Terror - No TV Sketch Filthkick - Sonic Reducer Strangely enough - Both are played by the same bloke and both tracks are covers
The People's Hero Posted 7 October 2005 Posted 7 October 2005 The Knack - My Sharona is a good shout. But for me, it's Eric Clapton's cover of Dylan's Don't Think Twice It's Alright.
Deathside Posted 7 October 2005 Posted 7 October 2005 I can't decide between Extreme Noise Terror - No TV Sketch Filthkick - Sonic Reducer Strangely enough - Both are played by the same bloke and both tracks are covers And weren't you in both bands? Burger me - Another strange co-incidence methinks

FNQ Posted 15 October 2005 Posted 15 October 2005 My top 3: Paul Kossoff - All Right Now Jimmy Page - Stairway to Heaven Brian May - Brighton Rock But my personal 'Favourite': Mark Knopfler - Sultans of Swing
Libertine Posted 15 October 2005 Author Posted 15 October 2005 I heard Stairway to Heaven for the first time the other day and I was quite disappointed by the solo. <_<
Deathside Posted 20 October 2005 Posted 20 October 2005 I heard Stairway to Heaven for the first time the other day and I was quite disappointed by the solo. <_< Try the Led Zep version instead of Rolf Harris???

Darth Fox Posted 26 October 2005 Posted 26 October 2005 Without a doubt it has to be Eruption by Eddie Van Halen. First time I heard it the it made the hairs stand up. The LIVE version he does is breathtaking and incorporates other Van Halen solo stuff and lasts about 15 minutes. Shame Van Halen faded away due to his alocohol and other issues as in his day he was untouchable and light years ahead of his time.

One underestimated one is John Squire with the Seahorses think the somg was called Love is the Law (Album version)
Alexikokopops Posted 26 October 2005 Posted 26 October 2005 Dunno about the best guitar solo, but Matt Freeman from Rancid does some of the best Bass Solos, just check out Maxwell Murders or Axiom.
Tommy Posted 29 October 2005 Posted 29 October 2005 Cocaine - Eric Clapton Sweet Child O' Mine - Slash and, not great, but one I like Caroline - Rick Parfitt, some of you may know it from when Apollo 440 sampled it in Stop The Rock.
