What can be done to improve our home atmosphere?

I seriously don't get people's obsession with having to be next to away ends to create an atmosphere. Yeah, it's great when you get a proper English atmosphere and a good ding-dong between two sets of fans, but how often do we actually get seriously good away ends at our place? I'd be in L1 a few years back seeing lads give it to 400 Scunthorpe or whatever rather than sing Leicester songs, and just think 'what's the point?'

A swap of ends isn't suddenly going to magically turn the people who sit now at home games into standers who want to go for it all game.

For what it's worth though, I am willing to admit that although most of their songs are utter wank, I was envious of Derby having a full standing end next to the away fans and giving it a pretty good go to boot while most of our 5k stood there like lemons..

Exactly. The continental model is the complete opposite, based around the home ultras being at one end and the away fans the opposite. I won't open the German football can of worms, but there is more than enough proof there that you don't need to be next to each other to create atmosphere lol.

Short of safe standing or major redevelopment of the stands to improve the acoustics, there's not much you can do.

Marketing the club as a happy clapper family experience does us absolutely no favours. We need to start attracting 18-30 year olds rather than young families and pensioners like we do at the moment. The different demographic of sections that sing and clubs with the best atmosphere's (away from home specifically) is clear to see.

The problem is most people are indoctrinated to sit and wait for something to happen in this day and age, in stark contrast to pre-hillsborough.

Large Safe standing areas would encourage people to get involved more but we really need to become fashionable for grown men to support.

It's all been debated before and it won't happen.

It's not the owners fault, quite the contrary, they've tried so hard to aid the atmosphere. But the authorities work in the opposite direction trying to negate anything likely to excite the fans. We can't take a beer into the stands but the rugby crowd can! Ridiculous. but just one example.

Apart from the football of a brilliant game, the mood is sedate rather than electric and choreographed to be that way in the main.

Even the concourses are grey, bland, unwelcoming and that sets the mood along with whole sections of the ground where any reaction, inconvenience or sign of emotional life seems to be frowned on.

Of course there should be a standing section but health and safety think differently for all the fact that if their reasoning was followed through logically, they'd ban vehicles and close London down completely.

More action from fans to push the club. Petition for the club to clear 500 seats in front of Union FS that can only be purchased with a union fs membership (season ticket holders can relocate here for a game if they wish), cup games can be a start. Set up a change.org petition, get union fs to run it - show the demand is there. And reduce prices in this area :o Lead the way.

Less miserable moaning supporters.

It's clear these days that most people like to bitch about anything and everything. If we sang non stop all game, someone would come on to FT and say we sang the wrong songs.

No matter how good the atmosphere gets, in 2017 people look for any and every fault. Personally think the atmosphere thing is overrated. Known a couple of top professional players who say it's all cobblers about playing in a so called intimidating stadium. They loved it. Made them try and play harder. When your on the ball you don't hear the crowd.

The pre Hillsborough thinking is rubbish as well,  in 40 years of supporting at Filbo, the best atmosphere was always the FA cup games, particularly home mid week replays and occasionally an end of season promotion party. Maybe the exception to this was the Bloomfield years which were exciting times.

My mate goes to Dortmund regularly and reckons, apart from being able to take crates of lager up to your seat, the atmosphere is created by the build up to the match on the PA system. They blare out music really loud and the guy on it whips the crowd up into a frenzy. Now, every English football fan is against that sort of stuff, cos they're stuck in the 70s and 80s and think they create the atmosphere, bit the reality is that's just bullshit. Atmospheres at football matches in this country is dying a death and the fans are unable to do anything about it, whether they like it or not, it's up to the clubs to come up up new initiatives.

And everyone will go there for the atmosphere, but won't join in, as we've already seen

union fs would grow if it's allowed too. You'd need to put procedures in place like mentioned. This forum smashes it, why don't we get more active and make a change?

I agree people flock to the atmospheric areas but does that not show the club that's what attracts people and why they should cooportate?
