What species of bird is that?

That's what I was thinking. I don't know the location, but I'll go for American Robin

First I’ve seen for about 40 years! Happily coexists with our moggies too.

Nice to see. Does it eat the cats' food?

Potentially. As it’s been hot the cats are out all night so we’ve been leaving water and biscuits outside. The biscuits are gone in the morning 🧐

It's a Canadian Robin (formerly known as the greatest American Robin ever) lol.

So, based on the schedule the eggs should have hatched yesterday or today.

Sadly, when I went to check I only saw 1 bird so assume the other two got eaten. I didn't see any birds on the grass  below (ie fallen out).

But i got some cool video of the one. Here is a few still shots. Think he was telling me to "fack off ya ****!"

Looks like a freaking demagorgan lol.

Apologies for the bad pic quality but I am recording this via video on my phone from the window. If you look closely you can see the hatchling with its beak.wide open and parent bird about to Uber eats it some dinner.

Remembered reading a reminder earlier this summer about putting water out for the birds.

We've kept our bird bath and a small bowl filled and they certainly appreciate it. We've had birds not only drinking from it but also the odd one taking a bath. :)

They certainly like if the bird bath is somewhere near a perching point where they can feel secure

A Peregrine Falcon has just killed a Magpie on my neighbour's driveway and about ten other Magpies are going absolutely mental at it.

I've never heard such a racket, I'm trying to sleep here, lads

Is the Falcon still there or flew away to enjoy his breakfast?

In our back garden we have had a couple of pigeons having a go at each other at least twice this week.

Clear unrest in the ornithology world.

We think it moved its kill to behind my neighbour's car, as the fuss continued even though we couldn't see it.

It has at last gone quiet, mercifully.

Was just reading how magpies sometimes team up with other corvids, and there a WERE a couple of crows getting involved but very much on the fringes so I doubt their efforts will be particularly appreciated

Are you sure they weren't just hungry?

Have you called The Flying Squad?

Police helicopter was hovering over our house yesterday (I've done nothing, guvnor!). Typical! They're usually too late to do anything so for a change they turned up too early. Broken Britain etc

Had a few recent sightings of the Jersey Tiger Moth. Beautiful orange when flying and almost an art deco look when at rest with a triangular shape with black and cream stripes. Used to be very rare on mainland England but range increasing in south

Good year generally for butterflies, but I've seen loads of these this year, Gatekeeper. Not to be confused with the Meadow Brown, which is similar, but a bit bigger and only one white dot in the black spot.

Lots of Painted Ladies too. They're difficult to photograph though, never stay still!

Yes. I suppose an upside of the recent hot weather. I saw 3 Gatekeepers at the same time in the garden yesterday. Definitely correct about the Painted Ladies. Every time I try to get a closer look they flutter away
