From the Secret Tokyo guidebook..

"At the Tokyoawa-inari temple visitors are surprised by an astonishing number of statues of foxes. They are everywhere in all shapes and sizes in every corner....

Their presence is down to the cult of Dakini,a protective deity who traditionally rides a white fox...

The temple was founded by Oooka Tadusake who came from a lowly background and rose almost unoticed to become one of the city's highest ranking officials. This explains why today the temple and its foxes are highly respected and appreciated by anyone looking for promotion or success...."

Perhaps Shinji-san rides a white fox too?

Happy new year foxes.
