Taking it that he will be off in the summer and bearing in mind Diabate's great start do you think the Mahrez money will go on a direct replacement? 

 

We will not get a ready made Mahrez mk2, there isn't one, Hazard, De Bruyne, Coutinho and Salah won't come here even if we could find their salary.

 

We could try the next tier and offer say 65% of the Mahrez money for Zaha. 

 

Or - we could look at the team and identify where it would be better spent. I foresee one hell of a struggle to keep Maguire, who had solved 50% of our ongoing replacement plan for our aging CB's. Completing this task by investing in another one (or if Maguire goes) two such as Boro's Gibson and making Dragovic a permanent option (but perhaps just as cover) is essential. A top, top Right back would also be on the list. Will the Fuchs / Chilwell job share continue for one more year (hasn't Fuchs got a plan of heading to USA at some point), if not a left back would need to be sourced too.

 

Presuming Ndidi stays, midfield and up front may not need to use the Mahrez money, as someone who remembers much of the Lineker money going on CB Russell Osman and Midfielders Macalister and Mauchlen it can be an opportunity to strengthen elsewhere (although Bright, Sealy, on-loan Cunningham and later addition Moran never replaced him adequately).

 

So maybe if £80-90 million (and maybe £50-£60 million for Maguire) is coming we could maybe think outside the box and not just look at silky skilled wingers.

The fact we're shit at spending money and whenever we spend a sizable amount of money or break our transfer record it generally seems to curse them i'm wary.
