Capital punishment

Some points in favour of Capital Punishment that haven't been broached yet:

 

- It needn't necessarily be stupidly costly as it is in the overly litigious USA. Why not limit appeals to one, and set a 1 year maximum wait for execution? No living for decades on death row launching taxpayer funded appeal after appeal.

 

- The 'you can't show killing is wrong by sentencing death' - well by that logic you can't show Josef Fritzl it was wrong to lock his daughter in a basement by locking him in a cell.

 

- I worry about the affect murderers can have on other prisoners. Think of the Lee Rigby killers... yes they may never be freed, but how many young men may they indoctrinate in prison who may be released to commit acts of terror? If they were executed it'd be problem solved.

As a left leaning person I honestly think prisons should be places of rehabilitation although I understand that some people are lost causes and should be allowed to rot away in solitary confinement. Hmm I'd contest this point. Nature can have as big an impact as nurture/environment.

Study murderers etc and find what's makes them tick to prevent others.

It seems to me we have permanent Capital punishment...

When I See governments Killing their own Peoples,under the pretence

Its governments sanctioned ,killing of people as punishment .They are legally If seems,

adjuged to have commited a crime by simply Just being there....

 

Some call If by othe names,one is conveniently called war,another civil unrest.!!!!!!!

This thread has been quite eye opening, and some decent points being made.

 

Years ago I was always in the bring back hanging brigade. An eye for an eye and all that..  if a rapist, rapes a kid he should have it cut off (and if it was a woman then have it sewed up) However i have mellowed with age and i do think reform is the best action, since some and i have no clue of the % can be saved.

 

The only issue i have is that some people are just bad and no amount of reform or therapy can save them and if let out of prison they WILL re-offend.

An example would be the James Bulger killers. Both obviously very messed up children, one has reintegrated into society without any issue, the other obviously hasn't. The first for all we know could be making a very positive contribution to society.
