They knew how shocking we were but many of them were of the opinion that Ranieri had earned the right to take us down. 

 

Cant decide which game was the worst in that period; United, Chelsea, Southampton, Burnley, Swansea or Millwall.  Some truly horror shows.

I can't believe some people actually thought this- that was probably the most annoying line, alongside 'what do they expect, to win the league again?!'- nope, just our Premier League status.

 

As for those games- Christ, I genuinely can't work it out either. I would say it would have to be Millwall, and losing against a League 1 side with 10 men, but the way we capitulated against United in that first half was criminal and we offered absolutely nothing at Southampton and Swansea. Any of those 4.

There is absolutely no way anyone watched that horrendous Swansea game, where a struggling Swansea beat us comfortably, and thought we were doing anything bar getting relegated. I speak to a Villa fan a lot and he kept telling me I was going well OTT when I told him how bad we were. After that game he held his hands up and said we reminded him of them the year before.

 

Southampton was as bad as Barnsley 2013 but Millwall I think is second to only Wycombe.

 

It's unreal really how pear shaped it went. I didn't expect us to keep up the standard of the year before but we were in total freefall.

 

It ultimately boiled down the snobbery. Ranieri's allowed to take us down to League Two.

The fact is, something had to change. You aren't going to sack 8 players so one man pays the price.

 

And I wouldn't have wanted him to take us down in any case. That would've affected his legacy and the view of him.

 

Winning the league once doesn't mean you should accept crap football and decline as a consequence.
