Leicester City have banked almost £120million in Premier League prize money for the 2017/18 season.

City finished ninth in the Premier League table after a frustrating season of missed opportunities but have still pocketed a cool £118,170,198 from the combined prize pot of nearly £2.5 billion.

Figures released by the Premier League show City collected £23.2m for finishing ninth, as well nearly £80.5m from the clubs' equal share of domestic and international TV money and commercial payouts.

Leicester may have finished ninth in the table, but they collected the 10th largest amount of money.

That is because Newcastle had six more matches shown on television, meaning they pocketed nearly £7m more than City in facilities fees - the percentage of the money pot that is shared based on how many matches are broadcast. The rest is split equally.

A new £8bn worldwide television deal came into force last season, which saw City receive a huge £115.8m for their 12th-placed finish, which was still over £20m more than in their title-winning campaign.

West Brom earned nearly £95m despite finishing bottom of the table, which is still a fraction more than Leicester earned for winning the Premier League in 2016.

So up £3m from last year, but the club will still feel the circa £80m hole from the Champions League income. Revenue set to "plummet" back down to around £150m from the £223m last year.

I read that the summer meeting of PL clubs could bring a compromise deal on the "big six" getting a larger share of the overseas TV rights. They don't have the 14-6 vote needed, apparently, but Richard Scudamore wants a compromise reached. Of course we're one of the three teams supporting the big six in their quest to further pull away from the teams below.

No doubt with West Ham and Everton .....

I know a few extra millions sound massive, but it doesn't really apply to the game now - especially if the money is organised by clubs in order to cover next season's wages etc and supporters not getting much value out of it perhaps with the price of attending a football match/watch via BT/Sky Sports etc getting more and more expensive.
