Yet another hurricane headed our way

http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm2...m=wxcenter_maps

Its current estimated pressure is 884 which,if correct, is the strongest pressure ever recorded in the Atlantic. Winds are currently about 175mph. There a good chance its going to be headed right for where I am.

Who said living in Florida was fun? Oh yeah it was me

Could be worse, could be me over there, no seriously good look matey.

PS Did you get that link last night

Me best mate matt who post on here (matt101) was in Cancun when Wilma hit Mexico, he was evacuated to a school and was there for a week, crammed into a class room with little food, water and out of use toilets. he arrived back in Britain on Thursday, 6 days late.

Thank god he arrived home safe and well, he was very lucky as the hotel he was staying at lost it roof to the hurricane, his lugggage was wrecked by the floods, and he was also unfortunate to spend his birthday traveling all day to get home.

OK well here goes then.

Last Sunday night, once we found out that the hurricane was likely heading straight for us, we checked into a local hotel, as our power goes out too easily. We decided checking into a hotel with a generator would be a safer bet. So we got ourselves a room on the 8th floor and waited for the storm to hit. The storm really started to get bad around 6am, just as the sun started to come up and it was without a doubt the most surreal thing I have ever witnessed.

We had winds of 120mph and gusts of around 149mph. The wind was blowing so strong that it was literally picking up water off the lake opposite the hotel, and slamming it into buildings. I saw trees being ripped out of the ground, the sky being lit up by blue flashes and sparks as the transformers on the power lines kept blowing.

Anyway, around 7am our power in the hotel went out and we discovered that the generator only actually covered the corridors, elevators and the lobby so it was pretty pointless us checking in in the first place really. But by then it was light so we just ended up watching the storm and wondering if we had a house to go back too. We were given the all clear that it was safe to go outside again at around 2pm, well I say safe but there were still tropical storm force winds. My drive back to my house was so bizarre. I would say that perhaps 70% of all the trees had either been broken in half, or totally uprooted. Virtually all the traffic lights had been blown away completely and loads of roads were blocked.

Luckily our house itself wasnt damaged, although the development we live in was totally trashed and obviously we had no power. We decided to stay in the hotel for the next 2 nights as they had enough power to run there kitchens so at least we had somewhere to get hot food from, which was a godsend frankly.

But thats not all......

Sometime on Tuesday, im not quite sure when, the generator in the hotel packed up! so bang went our food and also all running water, be it hot or cold. Given this we figured we might as well stay at home rather than paying for a hotel so we moved all our stuff back home. Bear in mind while you that while all this was going on, there was hardly any petrol stations open and the few stores that were open had massive queues outside of them just to get inside!

So we were coping ok, not great obviously with no power or phone but we were surviving, that was until Thursday afternoon when the toilet in the guest bedroom suddenly decided to back up and start flooding. This meant we had to turn the water off so now not only did we have no power or phone, we now also had no water.

This was the final straw and we just couldnt cope anymore, during all this, my girlfriends mom had been staying with her sister as she had alos lost power, and she had managed to rent a condo up in Orlando so we had somewhere to go. So we packed up our stuff, queued for 4 BLOODY HOURS to get enough gas, and then drove up too Orlando. We got to Orlando around 10pm to find that the condo we had booked hadnt been cleaned from the guests before us and the place was totally trashed. So we ended up having to stay one night in yet another hotel until this place got cleaned. By the time we got to the other hotel and checked in it was around 1am. We were totally exhausted and slept till around 11am the following morning.

So we pack up all our stuff and head out to our car......only too find that some complete and total sh1t had smashed the rear window of our car!!!!!!!!! So cue 3 hours of trying to make reports with the cops and hotel security blah blah blah. even though te hotel had 24 hour security they wouldnt accept any liability for it which means we need to pay around $400 for a new window.

Now as if this wasnt bad enough, my girlfriend has come down with a severe case of strep throat, which if im correct is the same as glandular fever. Anyway shes very sick and is also highly contagious which means im probably going to get sick too.

So now we are sat in a condo in Orlando, with my girlfriend sick in bed, and a car with no rear window, our power is 'supposed' to come back on tomorrow but im not holding my breath as when we left it was like a warzone down there.

All in all this has probably been the worst week of my life.

Oh but on a side note, i did take some very impressive pictures of the damage around us and once we get back home I'll upload them so you can have a look.

I agree, it definitely sounds like a bit of an ordeal, but at least you guys are alive and (with a bit of luck) you might even be able to avoid getting ill!!!

Gald your okay and hope you don't get ill! hope everything turns for the better for you guys soon.

Hope the arsehole that smashed your car window gets what's coming to them. No need.

But at least you and yours are alright, that's the main thing.
