Walshie is God Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 Whilst I'm not puels biggest fan i have to admit that IF we keep things tight for 45 minutes (his plan). We do look a decent team. It can be considered boring but id rather this than gung ho and 2 down at half time. If we could find a way to create a few 1st half chances and a way to put away the poorer teams we'd be a solid top 7 side. But for now I'm happy with winning boring. Happy new year foxes fans
Guest MattP Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 His tactics over the three away games have been absolutely spot on. Stifle the opposition and give them little chance to create. Another attacking midfielder, winger and we might be looking good.
SheppyFox Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 We’re on track but need to keep spending, can’t make up my mind whether I’d agree with Barnes coming back or not, unless he’s going to play a lot.
FLAN Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 It’s so weird. Some absolutely terrible football yet some solid results and nobody can complain about the league position. I just don’t enjoy watching us and feel there is a bit more to this team than we are currently seeing in terms of playing style. I dont like his style but resigned to the fact he is getting results so shouldn’t be sacked. I just pray he can start finding a way to make us more dynamic and attractive at home because watching us play is pretty dire...
davieG Posted 1 January 2019 Posted 1 January 2019 The style's ok but we're not playing it as he wants. He wants us to get forward quicker but through the middle as well as down the wings. The problem is our pass completion which is atrocious especially the unforced error ones. We need either some fast improvement by the current guilty ones or some better players it's all down to time and whether the fans are prepared to wait for it to materialise.

I'd bring Barnes and Slimani back, shift a few others that aren't needed and try desperately for a CM capable of passing froward. That would strengthen us whilst buying us some time to the summer window where we're likely to do our main business.

If we get another striker, winger and a creative centre mid then i can see us creating more and scoring more. We have the players to win away in tough fixtures, as Hamza, mendy and Ndidi shield the back 4 and we use jv, chilly and ricardo on the counter. But at home against teams with 11 men behind the ball, Hamza, Mendy and Ndidi are less effective and this is where we need players with more quality going forward. Cant just rely on madders to break down the crap teams.

He is almost as good defensively as Mendy and way better going forward in terms of passing or dribbling and was often in the surface to finish the chances when he was playing at Nice. He also was one of their best players when Puel was there, with Ricardo (and Ben Arfa for one season) so I could see his recruitment happening and working fine. I think we also need one more winger, maybe two if Gray keep stagnating this season and we could be a very good side.
