KingsX Posted 14 February 2019 Posted 14 February 2019 A wild thought, in case it is worthy or practical enough that any of you English Foxes might want to run with it. Since 2009, the English Football Museum and Hall of Fame has commemorated great teams from history alongside its awarding of individual players and coaches. 2013 saw the first induction of a referee, while 2017 saw the first induction of a figure from the football media. On occasional circumstances there will also be a presentation of a 'special award'. All inductees must also have played/managed for at least five years in England. Members of the Hall of Fame are chosen by a panel. It is now chiefly a grouping of eminent football historians. The current panel features Neil Carter, Tony Collins, Jeffrey Hill, Peter Holme, Dick Holt, John Hughson, Simon Inglis, Alexander Jackson, Gary James, Graham Kelly, Tony Mason, Kevin Moore, Martin Polley, Dil Porter, Dave Russell, Matthew Taylor, Jean Williams and John Williams (and surviving inductees). Two players have been inducted as the 'Fans' Choice', following polls on the BBC Sport and Sky Sports websites. So if there’s refs and journos in … why not great owners? (Our Pro Football HoF includes a few owners whose clubs had outstanding records, or who changed the game.) Given his achievement in assembling and fostering the 2015-16 PL winners … philanthropy … and record as a “fans’ owner” … would the late Vichai Srivaddanhaprabha be worthy of a place as the first owner in your football Hall of Fame? The man kept a low profile in the UK. But his achievements will never be equalled. And his character and community works were of the highest order. We’ve discussed numerous ways to honor Khun Vichai. This would keep his memory front and center, and not just in Leicester. Cleveland landed the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame due to a petition drive (600,000 of us fans signed it) and a national newspaper poll we swamped with responses. Maybe a similar grassroots effort would awaken the nominators to the idea that an owner -- this particular owner -- should also receive their honors, or at least induction as fans’ choice. The effort would have to be worked through the local and national press. Is it worth a push?
sylofox Posted 14 February 2019 Posted 14 February 2019 Yes it is worth it. In fact 15/16 should have its own room. Nothing like it will ever be repeated.
Voll Blau Posted 14 February 2019 Posted 14 February 2019 Is that the National Football Museum one? Looking down their list entire teams have been inducted in it before (Forest 78-80 being one of them). I think it would be far better to see the entire team/club honoured if anything.
st albans fox Posted 14 February 2019 Posted 14 February 2019 I’m pretty sure that they wouldn’t honour khun vichai. The team perhaps but not the individual. EDIT: and from what i read below, it cant happen for another twenty odd years …. and by 2040, there wont be any 'skeletons in any cupboards' (apologies for the phrase) for the curators to worry about. it is relevant when it comes to things like this. organisations are petrified about bad publicity or embarrassment
KingsX Posted 14 February 2019 Author Posted 14 February 2019 Since 2009, the Museum now also commemorates whole teams alongside its awarding of individual players and coaches. The criteria for their induction is that they must have played at least a quarter of a century prior. Team awards are often made at special, one-off induction events in conjunction with the club being honoured. Manchester United and Liverpool's European Cup winning sides of 1968 and 1978 were the first teams inducted. In 2009, Manchester United's Busby Babes squad of the 1950s and Manchester City's cup-winning squad of the late 1960s and early 1970s were inducted. In 2010, the World Cup winning England squad was inducted. In 2011, Aston Villa's European Cup winning side of 1982 was inducted in a special ceremony. In 2014, Preston North End's "Invincibles" team was inducted. In 2016, Nottingham Forest's European Cup winning squad of 1979 and 1980 was inducted. If there was ever a shoo-in ... but we're talking 2040 or so.
Fox92 Posted 14 February 2019 Posted 14 February 2019 Not for me. Why would an owner be placed in the football hall of fame. If anyone it should be Ranieri or the title winning 11/squad.
