City of Leicester & Leicestershire - The Good and Historical Stuff

Recommended Posts

I haven't driven near The Cattle Market /Aylestone Road/Rawdykes area since before Covid until last week.

I was under the impression that there were major road works taking months to complete, causing major disruption.

When I went that way out of Leicester, I couldn't see anything different :dunno:

Old Leicester wasn’t always a better place back then. This is the Aylestone district looking towards the power station from the roof of the colleges of art and technology in January 1954.

I can remember the two cooling towers being blown up.

And it looks like the nice art deco building next to the station is going soon, too,

Walked through town after the game tonight for the first time in ages and don’t get me wrong theirs some really rough parts of the centre but equally theirs parts of it that have a “proper” big city feel to it and a buzz about it

Weather helps too

Something you don’t get at all in Cov, Northampton etc

Leicester folk definitely love to talk the place down

Now and Then. The Dover Street Baptist Church, which became the Rechabite Hall and then the Little Theatre.

Now and Then. A photographers and artists studio stood on the corner of London Road and Conduit Street pictured about 1920. And now of course, long gone. To the left, you can just see part of the London Road statio
