UHDrive Posted 26 July 2020 Posted 26 July 2020 I've always wondered how much it costs the club for an average away game in Europe including flights, security, hotels and team physios etc. Assuming the prize money for group stage EL is around £17 million plus group stage wins etc and with knockout stages/win comp which would take it to potentially £30+million. How much would an averege away game in Europe cost the club?
Aus Fox Posted 26 July 2020 Posted 26 July 2020 I reckon it’s part of Rudkin’s job to collect all the £10 holiday vouchers from The Sun and they get it on the cheap.
AjcW Posted 26 July 2020 Posted 26 July 2020 I imagine a lot of the costs are on long term contracts. Flights for example, probably just pay a company to look after us for the year, same with security. Hotels, we probably have a 'hotel partner' somewhere in the sponsorship pool, whereby they supply rooms in exchange for advertising space. Essentially a lot of it will be absorbed. For example Birmingham Airport sponsor us, so we fly out of there and they may even pay for the charter.

There is no way UEFA sort individual clubs travel plans and accommodation arrangements, they’re such individual requirements based on a clubs desires and means to pay. No serious club would leave important issues like this in the hands of a third party. Plus - if it was UEFA organising these things you would have expected to see a monumental **** up by now, say a club landing thousands of miles away from the country they’re supposed to play in.

It might only be in the qualifying rounds or something but I'm sure I've read they do something like that to make sure the smaller teams from the likes of Armenia or Khazakstan for example can afford to compete. That being said I've tried looking it up and can't find anything at all on the issue. Maybe someone who knows about the workings of this kind of stuff can help? Interestingly I was once at an airport one summer (Maybe Edinburgh) and through the window of the terminal I saw the Dortmund team getting off a dortmund branded plane. I've always wondered whether they owned it (maybe cheaper) or what was going on there.

The Bochum guys are always happy when they dodge having to travel on one over here.

I read something similar too about the qualifying rounds. Onus on the home team and UEFA to have accomodation sorted because of the quick turn around in fixtures. On some occasions UEFA even put the money up and then it’s deducted from the winnings
