TrickyTrev Posted 18 November 2005 Posted 18 November 2005 No the current music scence is fantastic. It just hasn't got the benefit of notalgia when we analyse it yet. People thinkt he 60's and Seventies were all Beatles, Sex Pistols, Queen (who were shite anyway), Hendrix, Led Zeppelin >Insert and arty(ish) band of choice here< chosing to ignore that there was shit laods of pap back then to. Englebert Humpledink kept Strawberry Fields off of number one FFS, and Abba are still seen as one of the greats of the seventies!! Right now we ahve the Pop Idol rubbish, which is the equivelent to Abba or Cylla Black or soemthing, and we have boring as anything bands like Keane and Coldplay, they are your Englebert Humpledinks. However, these are not the bands that will be rememebred fondly, it is the artisitcly significent bands that are changing people lives all the times. Giving them somethignto believe in. Be it Radiohead, The Libertines, Emminem, Aphex Twin, Greenday or just about anything to suit your tastes. We live in good times.

Mark Posted 18 November 2005 Posted 18 November 2005 Good post. Is Blink 182's greatest hits worth buying then? Anything pre Enema of the State is worth buying. The Greatest Hits isn't, too many songs are off their last album which is their worst. Enema is a great album to buy first if you're looking to get into them more, but Dude Ranch is their best album.

Thanking you.
CasinoGee Posted 18 November 2005 Posted 18 November 2005 Buy Enema first. Then Cheshire Cat at the other end of their spectrum. They have sooo many good songs that aren't on their Greatest Hits, and a fair few bad ones that are which is a shame. Seems like they're appealing to the masses with this one. Personally, the 00s has been pretty crap. Even in the not pop world, things like Emo, Metal etc have been pretty dreadful

I listened to Dude Rance for the first time in a while t'other day, I forgot how quality it was
shen Posted 21 November 2005 Posted 21 November 2005 The worst decade for music must be the 70's. Well apart from the Punk, Mod and Ska Revival at the end. It was all Glitter and Shit! Like the Osmonds, Sweet and the Carpenters. Just rubbish! Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, The Doors and so on....yes the 70's were god awful The 00's haven't been spectacular, but Tool released Lateralus in 2001 and that is in my opinion another mark in rock music history. This is in many ways a far better decade than the 90's and most certainly the godforsaken 80's!
TrickyTrev Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Cream, Hendrix, The Stones and The Doors' best days were in the sixties.
lush Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Are we in agreement that the 00s is the worst decade for music in a very long while? Sure, there are a few good bands around, but, in my opinion, we need a new Nirvana or Sex Pistols. Somebody to raise the standards of everyone else. The 90s Britpop battles etc were fantastic, what do we have now? Sugababes versus Mylo? Depends what genre your talking about. For instance, pop music has dipped incredibly due to pop idol shows, trance has stabalised over the last 3/4 years or so. Theres still more than 4 years left to go. Will the music industry allow another sex pistols? It just seems so comfortable selling love shit to teenagers at the mo.
The People's Hero Posted 24 November 2005 Posted 24 November 2005 Paul Heaton is a great songwriter. The Housemartins were a good band... also TBS.
