Yeah, we are going to struggle. We lacked any kind of finesse with the ball, didn't really seem to have a game plan. We played a high defensive line but the lack of pace in the back four was pretty grim, they ran rings around us and beat us for pace time and time again. Felt we desperately lacked pace all over the pitch to be honest which caused us nightmares in ball retention and winning second balls (I can't really remember us winning any second balls). Highlight of the game was a good move at the start of the second half with a few one touch passes and a drive forward with a shot on goal, other than that there was an obvious gulf in class.

Having said that, I think we can pick up some points against the Readings and Evertons of the league.

On the plus side, the attendance was cracking and nice to see.

Will be interesting to see how many come back next time.

They have obviously stepped up massively since we beat them in the FA cup, at least I hope they have!

That was chastening today. I can’t think of a single area where we matched up. Every second ball was theirs and they just cut through us at will. They looked fitter, tactically and technically better as a team and individuals and it looked like they had just battered us into submission.

....I feel sorry for Flint, like Vardy when we are struggling she gets little or no support!!!

The rare moments she managed to get on the ball upfront, she was looking for someone wide in support, which never came until Sigsworth imposed herself more on the game. We are missing a play maker in the middle, someone who can get on the ball and hold on to it and orchestrate our play.

Not to forget the zippy surface the players will have to get used to at the KP as well. Probably suits the bigger sides at the moment.

Think we're learning though and have had good patches in both matches so far. Still a lot of points to be won!

On an atmosphere front I quite enjoyed the experience of my first WSL game.

Obviously a lot more family orientated and relaxed crowd but was great to see the numbers in from the start of the season.

The crowd was a bit of an odd one for me. Largely strolling in 5-10 minutes AFTER KO. It reminded me of what it used to be like 10 or so years ago at Leicester Riders. I don’t know what it’s like there now as I haven’t been for years, but there used to be a lot of people randomly going to games with no clue of the sport just because it was a cheap day/night out and not really engaging.

Atmosphere felt weird, I think it would’ve been better to have supporters on both sides of the pitch - making use of J1, J2 etc and not A1, A2, C1 etc. Felt odd looking over to empty seats, especially after having been there 24 hours earlier to a sell out.

Going to be a long, frustrating season for Jonathan Morgan and the girls because a majority of the squad just aren’t at the level. Technically & physically they look miles off it, half the squad are just running around like headless chickens and just launching the ball into no mans land.
Levell, Brougham, Plumptre, McManus, O’Brien, Flint & maybe Sigsworth are the only ones who seem ready for this level.

Club will just chuck a load more cash at it in January im sure, bought the league last year.

A lot of the girls don’t seem ready for this level,   But unfortunately it’s in areas of the pitch where you need creativity and they probably had the least impact. It’s going to be a long tough season for them, I think the club have taken it for granted when they came up that they would be able to replicate last seasons form. Man United looked okay and they’re not even one of the best. I fear for them when Chelsea or Man City are the opponents, could be a cricket score!

... agree with this to a point!!!

Can't believe the club would have taken anything for granted in regards to the promotion.

Looking at the game, we need to get a formation sorted where we do not over complicate our style of play. Not exactly playing by numbers but a simple 4-4-2 would be a foundation we could build on, as it seems as some of our players did not know what to do in certain circumstances in relation to support coming from deep and the player not having the speed or fitness to suitably play in the manner required.

Simplify our game, where players know without looking where the support would be and  not allowing the backline to be beaten with a very noticeable lack of pace.

We look awkward on the pitch and the ball is either stuck in our feet or bouncing off to the opposition when we try to control it. Coaching on retaining the ball needs to be stepped up, and sticking your bottom into you opponent in order to shield the ball and plant you better on the ground making it extremely difficult to shift you off the ball.

Lots of coaching of the basics needs to be happening right now, as this becomes a mindset of "we can't beat these", as opposed to "let's see what you've got".
