He’s got a little knockaert to him in the way that he moves with the ball.  Probably one of our most exciting players in years gone by because he truly was capable of anything. Honestly shocked he never progressed the way I thought he would:

Hope we can get him tied down ASAP

....for Alves the honeymoon period might just be over and his reputation will have alerted a few teams!!!

The cynical approach would be to see how he deals with being kicked about. Reading his game and knowing his tendencies.

It is how he deals with being a known threat and the way other teams will seek to quieten him that is going to dictates how he improves.

Watching Karamoko Dembele, he was exiting at 13, and it was a big deal coming on in an U20s game at such a young age. His size for me held him back, and not being able to keep pushing up the levels has left him behind other academy players at Celtic.

Alves has no problems with strength or size, he is very hard to push off the ball and he will naturally gain the physicality in time.

Just  getting the balance with his level and placements (out on loan or coming through the academy) of where he should be, in order for him to progress, is going to be our next problem, we need to get that right.

This is what Pearson did with Mahrez when he first came. I think it did him wonders and taught him how to deal with that sort of issue. If he carries on like that defenders will want to knock him about a bit as they don’t like this sort of player.

He’s definitely a talent, but one we need to nurture carefully so he can grow and become a possibility for the first team.

We’ve had quite success with our academy in recent years and it’s great to see them progressing to the 1st team. Seeing the likes of Barnes, Thomas, KDH, Chilwell come from our youths to be first team era is a great advert for any young player. It’ll attract more top talent as we can say and prove that there is a route to the first team and we know how to develop them ready from the prem.

If we've got any hope for this lad we need to get BR as far away from him as possible. He'll coach all natural flair out of him. I hate to keep harping on about it, but BR's comments after the Watford cup game about him taking too many touches (even if half said in jest) was quite troubling imho.
