Championship are playing and have Internationals

Us and Burnley have had our Winter Break

Surely we get special dispensation to at least play 1 match that week....vs Burnley?

The players haven't had a winter break because they still had full training.  Three of Burnley's five postponements were within a couple of hours of kickoff, the other two just had a day or two's notice.  So the players haven't actually had a break.

Most of our players have had breaks though either through injury or Covid....you can't seriously suggest that players whove not played for months deserve a break?

Sadly not the same ………

I don't see how it isn't, but you may be right.

If anything it evens it up.

Because the AFCON is accepted by fifa and the leagues as being played during the season and if you sign players who are qualified to play for a country in that tournament then you run the risk of losing them for four/six weeks mid season

International breaks are periods where games are not played.

fifa have allowed the PL to play catch up games in this end Jan break where clubs do not have call ups

Yes, because the break isn't about playing, it is about recouperating. That really means time away from the game. For a proper, planned, winter break, the players would f off to somewhere sunny for a week or two, or there would be a warm weather training camp. The idea is that the body and mind have time to regenerate energy levels.

What's actually happened is the players have continued to have to get up at 11am and make their way down to the training ground for 3-4 hours a day, carrying on with conditioning exercises and preparing for matches that are not played. This is not the same as having a break.

Today’s performance wasn’t a good advert for the winter break. The boys have been swanning around in Dubai and err Norfolk etc and they’ve come back and looked like they’ve just come back from a booze cruise in Shagaluf 24 hours ago and carried on drinking rather than going to bed.

Clutching at straws a little bit considering our performances pre Winter break were also pretty useless.

Agree it's felt strange given we've had gaps in between games already due to all the postponements. But not sure the outcome today would have been any different
