Ric Flair Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 We are due to play Sheffield United on saturday with the club in dire straights. Another lsoe and I think there will be lots of fans who press the panic button especially if it's a drubbing, which it could easily be. It takes me back to another home game against Sheffield United many moons ago, is fate serving us a massive slice again or am I talking bollocks? Probably the latter but it's nice to dream. I'm actually looking forward to saturday I wouldn't be too pissed off to see us get obliterated.

ben_kaeppner Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 i will give levein more time he has got us a good young squad which is now starting to gel and this time next year we will be in play offs maybe even automatic promotion theres signs of good things to come

I want CL to succeed, Im sick of all the managerial changes, there was a time when managers used to walk out on us but now we have to boot them out (or make their lives so difficult that they have to resign) I dont think we will win on saturday but if we put up a fight it will make it easier to bear, that is unforunately how it is at the moment, you cling to any bit of hope available
Ultra Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 Strange though it may seem, a result on Saturday is by no means out of the question. The blunts have gone off the boil in recent weeks, partly because of the uncertainty surrounding their manager. Apparently some of their directors are sceptical about Warnock's ability to cope in the top flight and fear he may do a Mick McCarthy. In response, I suspect he may be very interested in a move to Pompey but wants to wait until their current run of fixtures is out of the way and their present boss can take the rap for hidings from Chelski, Man Utd etc. Meanwhile, I suspect some FOXES who were absent last night may be tempted back by the visit of a "top" club on Saturday. With a huge visiting contingent (over 3000) also in attendance, there may well be a decent atmosphere and the players will show a touch more motivation than was in evidence against Watford. Finally we can only hope that the manager learns from his errors in team selection, and restores Sheehan, Hughes and Hume to the starting 11. But even if we do win, it still won't erase the mories of too many unacceptable performances we have witnessed under Levein, both this season and last!
holly Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 maybe we will win, maybe we wont, but i think we will put up a fight, with a draw possibly giving confidence, and with the fact that we need to get revenge after the 4-1 hammering they gave us beggining of season! and hopefully noise will be better on sat, with sheff makin alot hopefully we will try and outdo them! when MA was here it was continuous singing why cant it stay like that now??

holly Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 beacuse we are no longer comfortable 2nd in the league. it shouldnt take, league placement to make us sing
Anish Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 It's not just the league placement, it's the dour football that fans have had to endure as well. I think we'll lose again on Saturday. Even if we win it'll just give us false hope under Levein.

Yes you are Seriously though even if we win i have come to the conclusion that CL is out of his depth in this league and needs to go! It does pain me to say this that but he seems to be starting to lose the dressing room as well. I get the feeling that a few of the experienced players are starting to question his decisions hence Nisse being dropped, and Kisnorbo being given the captaincy is another kick in the teeth for them, cause he's one of CL's favourites and will never question him.
Scow Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 Saturday's game is definitely winnable, but despite scoring 2 against Watford, one being a penalty, we still look a desperate side when attacking. In the second half, we barely created a chance against 10 men. We looked good for a 20 minute spell prior to half time, but that isn't enough. We often looked clueless going forward, with seemingly no outlets willing to take responsibility of the ball and to move the opposition about. Kisnorbo, as the holding midfield player, doesn't have the brain or ability to find space, receive the ball and then to initiate attacks. He's just a talentless clogger who runs around a bit and wins a few headers. We need someone in the mould of Billy McKinlay to play in that position. Someone with a bit of experience and discipline. To give us a chance of winning on Saturday, we need to bring Hughes back in to the midfield alongside Gudjonsson, and perhaps replace Sylla on the right with Hammond. That would then allow Hume and MDV to form a partnership upfront, which I believe is the best one we have at present.

breadandcheese Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 Am I in the minority who think that actually, Sheffield Utd aren't that much better than us? They simply have confidence on their side, a massive boost. On the opening day of the season, they did not outclass us. Yes, we lost 4-1, but it was not a 4-1 game. We simply made 3 stupid mistakes (Rab and Gilbert). Other than that, we were the better team for much of the match. Forget getting beat by an odd goal. I think we'll beat Sheffield Utd 3-0 on Saturday and kick start our season. I still maintain that we are one or two players away from a good side. We have a pretty solid defence. One good player upfront and we will be a different side. Hopefully, a returning Hume (come on craig, pick him again) can make all the difference.
AyewJoking Posted 23 November 2005 Posted 23 November 2005 A good result against Sheff U will have all the gullibles insisting we've finally turned the corner and Levein will once again be doing a good job.

I actually thought we were the better side for 80 minutes, but that was a result of a balanced team, especially in midfield. Joey and Williams linked up superbly that day and dominated the midfield. Jase and Sylla provided useful width on their respective flanks. And we also had Connolly, which made a difference in the final third.
