Gleison Bremer

Recommended Posts

Leicester City are plotting an incredible swoop for Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer as they look for Caglar Soyuncu’s replacement in defence, according to a report.

Soyuncu has run down his Leicester contract and is now hoping to leave the club on a free transfer this summer. Atletico Madrid are the best-placed club to sign him.

Atleti were in negotiations with Leicester for Soyuncu on the January transfer deadline day. But the two sides did not reach an agreement and due to this the Turk has had to stay at the King Power for an extra six months.

There should not be an issue in the summer however, when Soyuncu simply needs to negotiate a contract with Atleti. And he will be happy to leave Leicester after becoming a peripheral figure this campaign.

According to Italian source Calciomercato.it, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is already identifying potential replacements. He wants a top-class centre-half to join and compete with Harry Souttar, Wout Faes and Jonny Evans for a starting spot.

And the report claims Leicester are dreaming big, having set their sights on Juve’s Bremer.

The Brazilian was heavily linked with Tottenham and Chelsea last summer. Ultimately though, he joined Juve from Torino in a £43m deal.

Bremer’s spell with the Italian giants could be cut short. Following Juve’s 15-point deduction in January, they are unlikely to qualify for next season’s Champions League. This will result in a major decrease in revenue, and at least one big name will have to be sold to balance the books.

Leicester to pounce for Juventus man

Bremer and Dusan Vlahovic are two stars who could go. And Calciomercato.it suggest Leicester might pull off a shock by taking Bremer to the east Midlands.

Rodgers’ side are ‘serious’ about landing the 25-year-old. They could submit a €40m (£35.2m) offer for him in the summer.

Should Bremer move to Leicester for this amount, then it would make him the second-most expensive Foxes arrival of all time. Their record signing is midfielder Youri Tielemans, who cost £40m in 2019.

Bremer would be a fantastic capture for Leicester. While he has not quite lived up to expectations at Juve, he remains a solid Serie A defender. And he is a huge upgrade on Soyuncu, who has gone massively downhill in the last couple of years.

The fact Spurs and Chelsea were pursuing Bremer less than a year ago shows just how highly rated he is across Europe. Leicester would be pulling off a real coup by getting him.

It is likely Bremer would force his way into Rodgers’ starting eleven if he joined Leicester. He would then get the chance to impress the top clubs in the Premier League.

It would not be a surprise if Leicester bought Bremer for £35.2m and then sold him on for a profit in the future. This is what they have done with the likes of Harry Maguire, Riyad Mahrez and Wesley Fofana.
