Sly Posted 17 March 2023 Share Posted 17 March 2023 Leicester City are interested in signing Union Berlin midfielder Rani Khedira, according to a report. The 29-year-old is available on a free transfer this summer, and is said to be attracting interest from at least three clubs in the Premier League. According to SportBILD, one of those is Leicester City, while rivals Newcastle United and Wolves are also said to have an interest in the midfielder. He has been a key player for Union Berlin this season as they have stunned the country to sit fourth in the Bundesliga table, behind only Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig. In that time, it's said that Khedira has "developed into a leader" at the club, which has attracted interest from a host of clubs. They say he will "be playing with" Leicester, Newcastle and Wolves in terms of contract negotiations in the summer. Khedira, who is Union Berlin's vice-captain, has played in 23 Bundesliga games this season, and has made nine appearances in the Europa League, where his team are in the last 16. He has picked up seven bookings in the league, and two in Europe. As the younger brother of former Real Madrid favourite Sami Khedira, Rani has been looking to break out of his brother's shadow and may have done just that this season. Despite the unwanted comparisons, the two players are similar in playing style. Rani has said that: "The six is my primary position, but I've played as a centre-back, too, or have moved half a position forward when we're two-a-side, I think I can adapt anywhere." With Youri Tielemans almost certain to leave on a free transfer this summer, an experienced and versatile player with leadership qualities could make the ideal replacement for Leicester City. Torten Posted 17 March 2023 Share Posted 17 March 2023 Lord knows we need a combative midfield general, but I don't think Khedira is up to the level. His defensive stats are decent but is not a brilliant passer at all, might as well stick with Ndidi.

wardyfox86 Posted 17 March 2023 Share Posted 17 March 2023 Dahoud is better and attainable, regardless of all the agent chatter linking him with top clubs.

Different kind of players anyway Khedira would be for defensive mid, Dahoud would be for centre mid

He's exactly the type of CDM that Brendan was alluding to when he wants them to be progressive with the ball in terms of passing. Khedira isn't as good in that area, more like Mendy keeping things ticking over. Although we'll need the bodies next season and we really should be looking at both.
