It hardly Terry's fault. This is all the fault of Ego Rodgers also the club recruitment, retainment policy.

The defence has been an issue for 2 to 3 seasons, was a ticking time bomb, as was the mental backbone of the squad.

To be honest, nobody can sort out our defence as there are clearly much deeper rooted issues within the club.

If you look at the xG since Smith took over, whilst our xG for has gone up so has our xG against. To me that’s Smith and Co recognising our defence is shite and going for it with quick transitions as the only way to win a game.

If we went back to the timid approach of tika taka in defence we’d end up doing what we did under Rodgers, not creating anything going forward and getting pressed into making mistakes. The only other option is the Dyche approach of 11 men behind the ball but we don’t have anyone like Doucoure or DCL who can effectively hold the ball up.

Look Terry is here as a temp. I don’t think he’s the type of guy who doesn’t care but if his instructions and advice are not being followed do you blame him for going for a jog. I’d do the same. He’s not the one telling our defenders and midfielder to drop their pants! Quite the opposite but are they listening to him? Something is not right with the mental state of this team. Fix that first than the football will improve.

Now Souttar is apparently the messiah? That’s the height of desperation and suddenly getting better when you’re out of the team, he’s a Championship defender and moves like a tanker with lead in his boots and our defence certainly wasn’t any better with him in it.

Think the main issue is how exposed the defence are from the complete lack of protection in midfield more then just the defence alone. Smith needs to use his brain and actually use defensive midfielders to shield the defence to stop us being ripped apart

We had Ndidi and Soumare playing against Everton, both essentially playing that role. It made no difference.

I just hope he's running a train through all of their wives and girlfriends...

The next installment of "Wagatha Christie"?

The last Chelsea "legend" here did well, didn't he?

As several have said, our midfield has ghosted.  Can’t defend in the PL without protection.  Crazy to think that Hamza is being missed.

Only 2 of our players know how to put in a real tackle, or even want to do it.  That's Hamza & KDH.  One being out on loan, the other being inexplicably overlooked.  I guess you could include Mendy as the next best in that regard, but he too can't get a look-in.

I thought I saw signs last week, from comments made, that our triumvirate had clocked onto our weak midfield as being a big part of our defensive woes yet Soumare and Tielemans seem to be undroppable.  All respect for Tielemans has been drained out of me this season.  Even were he to be available for us next season I never want to see him don our shirt again.
