This is a petition for Alan Sheehan to be included in the starting line-up as left back.

He is the only natural left back at the club, and from what Thracian and others have seen, he could offer us much more going forward, and from dead ball plays.

He has so much to offer the side, yet Levein still leaves him out. Today highlighted the need for him. We wasted 3 or 4 golden freekicks.

He was brought on against Bolton, and set up Williams, and nearly got another assist late on with the ball for Dublin's header.

The petition might not achieve anything, but it can't hurt can it?

Vote "Sheehan in"!

We must have had 20 attacking free-kicks/corners. But this isn't the first time. It has been the case all season. What really bothers me is what appears to be an obvious lack of preparation, of rehearsal.

Nils, Maybury and Kisnorbo are not left-backs. Stearman played alright there so Levein moves him to the right side.

Every team selection Levein seems to throw a joker into the pack by playing someone out of position.

I'd like this to stop (except in emergency) and today has only further strengthened my opinion about Sheehan because little things make the difference in football matches as can be gathered by the number of times we've lost by the odd goal.

Another point is this: Nils and Maybury tend to play the ball in the air. Sheehan plays all sorts of passes accurately cos he is essentially a cultured player. His presence will further encourage us to stop hoofing the ball as we seemed to do far too much today.

what the fock is this? lol! Like any petition is going to make Levein change who he wants in the team. Sheehan is still a young lad, yes he might be talented but if you rush him he may not live up to his expectations or if he does, he may be bought off us.

Having people bought off us is a threat we'll always face but if he is our bst left-back - which a huge consensus seems to believe - and he has qualities that can improve our outcome's, then he should be given a proper chance. We've tried everyone and everything else but are still losing too many matches and most of them unnecessarily.

I'm not that desperate to see him in the side. When he has played for the first team he looked to have plenty of potential but his best attributes were his ball striking skills. He ddin't have any great athleticism or mobility.

I think it would be a massive risk to have Stearman and Sheehan playing in the same side, and concensus is that Stearman is much the better prospect.

Sincere question for anyone but raised by what you and others have said:

Why do some people prefer people who don't seem to make things happen in a game (Maybury, Kisnorbo, Nils, Tiatto) to people like Sheehan who always seem to make something happen?.

Your point about the risks is valid - Sheehan is no Hammond or Smith for speed or mobility - but NEITHER are Maybury or Nils. Yet Sheehan is every bit as good a defender as those two but also has his ball striking attributes.

I concede that I might be over-optimistic in thinking he can be as good as Denis Irwin in time but if we had a youthful Ben Thatcher or Graham LeSaux I wouldn't be pressing his claim. Thing is we don't.

Results are poor, dead ball problems are hampering us, Maybury/Nils are really NOT left-backs so what is there to lose? Like I say, his only previous League appearance ended 2-0 to us...so we're hardly talking about a reckless risk.

Maybury/Nils have only experienced a two goal win once in the League and they've played all season. They've also experienced a lot of defeats and boring draws.

Or he may not renew in his last year and move on for a set fee. Play him if he is any good.

I thought Maybury played well today and made some good forward runs at times!

No problem at all with Maybury. He's a good right back and could revert back there for the next match with Stearman at centre-back instead of the (presumably) suspended McCarthy. Stearman's been playing alright and

McCarthy's absence provides the perfect opportunity to see if he's ready for his preferred position at centre-back. We need Sheehan's specialist input on the left.

This would mean, for the first time since Levein's arrival, we would have every player in his natural position.

And we could have a line-up with the most attacking input to date.

I only go to one game so far this season that was against Sheff Wed ans Sheenan played I havent seen his attacking side in that game but he was very solid so I think he deserves a spot

yeh by all means put him on the bench and bring him on to get him in the games, but i dont think we should start altering with the back 4, yeh they let goals in, what teams dont, i think the back 4 now all work well together they have established there strengths and weaknesess!!!

Sheehan is very good but the fact is that he is 17 and looks lightweight. He simply doesn't have the physical presence to be a first teamer at this stage.

I do rate him, and clearly so does Levein. Within a few weeks of arriving at the club Levein singled him out with Stearman as being our two brightest prospects. To suggest that Levein has some sort of vendetta against him is utter rubbish. He will be played when he is ready, and is far from the saviour you all imagine him to be.

He certainly gets more attention now then he ever did while Adams was in charge.

He had as much presence as everyone else against Wednesday and we won 2-0.

He played Chelsea Reserves metaphorically on his own (and as captain) and not only had presence but somehow salvaged a 1-1 draw for us.

When I saw Sheehan play in the same team as Kisnorbo it was Sheehan looked like a footballer and Kisnorbo the novice. Nothing's changed since.

I don't for a minute consider Sheehan to be some sort of saviour or miracle worker. But we keep playing reasonably soundly, even well sometimes, yet losing or drawing matches. Furthermore we cannot convert our free-kicks and corners into goals, not just at Leeds but every week.

Sheehan has the skill to help tip that balance and what on earth we have to lose by giving him the chance, considering our record over the last 12 months I cannot for a minute understand.

We might even win by two goals again, like the last time he played a full League game.

I saw Sheehan in the Bolton game. Although he did indeed set up chances for us, he also looked suspect in defence and I can understand why CL is being cautious with him.

Playing him AND Stearman would be too much of a risk at the moment.

No chance that was because he was only on for the last few minutes, we were 2-0 down and Levein had told him to concentrate on getting forward and getting balls into the box. No chance, with time running out that he might have been rushing his defensive challenges?.

I ask cos I've never noticed him being over-eager in his tackling before (first team or reserves), indeed, quite the contrary. He tends to jockey people out of dangerous areas and only tackle when there's reinforcements available.

Nils has looked suspect at left back every game I've seen him play but it all goes quiet then. In fact who the hell hasn't looked suspect in our defence at times? Maybury and McCarthy were pretty grim early in the season, Dion gifted a goal at Watford and had other dodgy moments, Stearman's certainly made his errors. What's with the judgement being harsher where Sheehan's concerned?.

Why would he and Stearman be any greater risk than, say, Nils and Maybury? Cos of their age and inexperience?. Well, with all his experience it doesn't look like Nils will EVER get over his shortcomings and

I'll yet you decide who's best out of Stearman and Maybury cos I can't. That's why I selected all three in my team for Stoke.

Basically a fast-pressing 4-3-3 cum 4-4-2 with Smithy free to play either flank and Stearman in the old fashioned right half position. That way we keep all our best 90-minute players in the team and shed one or two who are really not delivering and haven't delivered all season.

Because of course you aren't biased in any way towards him. He is good, and has potential to be even better. However if he is thrown in too early it could destroy the lad. I have seen it done in the past, and it isn't pretty.

One mistake and the Leicester crowd could destroy his confidence for good. You yourself were screaming bloody murder a few weeks back that Hammond shouldn't be anywhere near the team, yet now I notice he is on your team sheet. I'm not sure how a 17 year old would respond to being booed one week and praised the next. Its also not wise to pile so much pressure on someone so young. One bad challenge or knock and it could dent confidence for good.

I think the enthusiasm of Wesolowski bears out my point quite well. Levein stated after he broke his leg that had he been a little more experienced he may not have gone in for what was a 60-40 ball, as a result he may have ended his career. He was lucky, and Balde was reckless, but a more experienced player probably would not have made that decision.

My point is that although both of these players are excellent (and I myself can not wait for them to break into the team, along with Chambo etc), sometimes you need to wait just a while and introduce them at the right time. Its like Hagen Das Ice Cream...Eating it straight out of the freezer is good, but if you wait for it to melt a little it is fantastic.
