It seems Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers should be prepared to start bidding for SC Braga defender David Carmo.

 

That’s because the Portuguese club are getting ready to sell him and buy someone else, according to newspaper Jornal de Notícias.

 

The outlet today writes about Braga’s interest in Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye, claiming the talks for him should accelerate this week.

 

It turns out that the transfer can only be financially managed if Carmo is sold, and that’s where Nottingham Forest, Leicester City and Wolves come in.

 

Braga are hoping to sell the defender for a ‘similar sum’, and it’s the English clubs that could afford that, as they already showed their interest.

 

Leicester City and Wolves were the first to be linked to Carmo, with reports from Portugal then claiming Nottingham Forest had joined the race.

 

The truth is that the race seems pretty open. The defender spent last season on loan at Olympiacos, who are not expected to trigger the €17.5m buying clause over him, opening the path to other interested sides.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis could be the reason why East Midlands rivals Leicester City fail to land a long-standing target as Steve Cooper's first signing.

Forest have watched as their former boss - one that won promotion to the Premier League then achieved survival before ultimately being dismissed - made the short trip down the M1 to take up the vacant manager's post at Leicester. Amid fears of sanctions over financial compliance and a balancing act on a budget with which to achieve survival, the task already seems difficult as is, however Marinakis could make matters harder yet if the latest word from Portugal is to be believed. 

This is because according to O Jogoand Record, the club's owner has tabled an offer of €12m upfront plus €3m in add-ons (£12.6m in total) to sign FC Porto defender David Carmo.

It's not clear from the article but Forest's owner also controls Olympiacos as well where he was on loan so think it's a signing for them. 

 

Makes sense they'd want to sign him given the impact he had.
