We’re all of product of our upbringing in terms of tastes, and there’s a lot of garbage food here. But ten days in Florida theme parks will make you question more about our country than just the food.

That being said, I will NEVER turn my nose up at British food. I specifically visit one nearby store over here to buy steak and ale pies and specialty teas all winter long. Rather eat British food year round than step foot in Florida ever again.

I'm very well aware that a couple weeks in Orlando isn't representative of the whole USA. I'm sure you have wonderful restaurants here just like we do in the UK.

But when Americans sneer at British food it's always using the worst of it as an example. I'd say our day to day food, like typical grocery store food or chain restaurants or take aways - way better than America.

Hell. Your McDonalds fries have ****ing sugar in the recipe.

Did not know this, and while horrifying, not at all surprised. I’ll stick with my takeout cheesesteak and American-made ESB tonight.

Even our “crisps” are subpar. All Dressed (Canadian staple) and Prawn Cocktail > anything we can buy here.

Christ, man, you made the point you absolutely had to make about American food on a thread about sporting events in America. 😂 There can never be a thread on here that mentions the States without someone dying for any opportunity to get something off their chest.

I shouldn’t, but I’m going to step in (politely).

America is a f***ing continent. Sure, there are loads of shit here. But there’s a ridiculous range of food in this country (plenty of which is produced here and shipped around the world), which includes  contributions from immigrant communities and melting pots well beyond the scope of what’s seen across England. That’s not a dig, that’s just geography, the sheer size of each country and its major urban areas, and how each country built up its respective population.

I’ve been to England many, many times; I’ve also been all over America via NYC. Absolutely nobody from New York, New Orleans, Chicago, San Francisco would agree with what you said because those places are all pretty much countries within the country and there’s no excuse to have shit food there. Talking down about food in other parts of America wouldn’t really mean anything to someone born and raised in places like Brooklyn, NY or the Marigny in N.O.. Each of those cities I mentioned is filled with options (take-out, grocery, casual, fine) and quality that just don’t exist in England. And that’s OK! Plenty of other places in America don’t stack up against what you have, and then there are also places in The States that are nothing but embarrassing chains and crap.

And I can’t get a pint of Tiger ANYWHERE in the United States, which is a MAJOR point on the board for England (specifically Leicester!).

I’ll also happily share that I’m still dreaming of the last curry I had in Leicester. And I f***ing love Greggs and would kill for one over here. lol There’s also plenty of other great food throughout England and the rest of the UK that stands on its own.

And when people sneer at the worst of the worst, it’s because they know they’ll get create outrage and engagement on the Internet. People from both sides of the pond do it to each other, it gets clicks and comments because people cannot help but to fall into those traps and react.

Now, back to the discussion about tournaments. 😂 Who’s coming over for the World Cup? You can see for yourself!

Yeh true tbf, like going to an Irish bar in Malaga and saying all  the food in Europe is sh1t. Disneyland is designed to be a plastic church of dumb money extraction.

The food in New Orleans is off the charts, base line 9/10, even a road side snack there is better than the best food in Italy and france.

I’ll be at World Cup 2026 for sure

I need to get back to New Orleans, you’ve just confirmed it. lol

I think the fact I hit such an obvious nerve responding to someone else's comment about the food tells everyone all they need to know (both about American food and American sensitivity to criticism of America lol

Although, sass aside, this deserves comment. Genuinely think you'd struggle to name many types of international cuisine you've got in the USA (or any country) now that aren't also in the UK. Particularly in big cities.

There probably isn't a nationality on earth that hasn't moved to England at some point by 2024 and brought their food with them.

Probably a result of globalisation as much as immigration. I've been to small towns in Bulgaria who have probably never seen an immigrant in their life where you can get relatively good Chinese or Italian food.

Yep I think the same would be true of most countries, especially most developed nations.

I'd be gobsmacked if you couldn't find good Peruvian dishes in Germany, some tasty Malaysian cuisine in France or even some excellent Bratwurst in Japan.

Maybe I misunderstood your post but I believe America's foreign born population is smaller than England and most western European countries.

Sure but nothing close to the level you’d find in America. Try to even find one half-decent Mexican restaurant. Could you casually meet a Peruvian at any time? I’m not trying to be a dick about this, I swear. 😂 You might find one restaurant if you searched hard enough and wanted to travel. I could take you to several Peruvian neighborhoods here and you can try 15 Peruvian restaurants before dinnertime today. Actually, that sounds like a pretty damn good way to spend a day, now that I think about it. 😂

As a percentage, it’s slightly smaller, yes. But as a number, the USA’s population is about 5x higher, and that’s not to mention the astronomical number of people who are second and third generation.

I’m going to leave it here. If anyone on the thread is coming over to

NY for any of the tournaments or any other time, send me a note, I’d love to meet up— yes, even with you, @Finnegan !😜😜

Cricket will be incredibly hard to take off outside of the Asian teams hosting games there.

Some sports like cricket/rugby will take time but I remember people saying the MLS would never take off...:D

I’m not into cricket so some of this post might be wrong. Anyway, cricket will never compete with the “big four” leagues and many other sports, but that’s ok. It really only has to grab a niche here and it will be fine enough.

The original poster may have had a point about some of the venues at the last cricket World Cup because we really don’t have many proper cricket grounds or even really stadiums at all here. But the games out on Long Island really seemed like they got the turnout and attention the organizers were hoping for.

Of course having India and Pakistan helped with that regard, but that was definitely the point. Cricket might not get mainstream media coverage here but those games were massive around the South Asian community (of which we’ve got a big one in the NY Metro area, unsurprisingly).

I saw some of the India vs USA game on TV and I loved not just how it passionate and good natured the crowd was, but also how proud and happy many people wearing India blue were to see both of their countries playing cricket.

The USA team had a lot of expats and did themselves proud, and you’d think the hope is that some younger folks from primarily our South Asian and West Indian communities got some inspiration for that to keep playing cricket and dream of also playing at the World Cup. If so, there are a few wealthy folks that are trying to lay down some money in enough cricket infrastructure to try to get Major League Cricket firmly established, have a decent enough national team pipeline, and get the amount of foothold in their section of the American sports world they need to get some return on investment.
