Spent an evening at Guilford Arms last week. Jolly Judge, Halfway House and World's End are solid small pubs on the other side of Waverley. It's not everyone's favorite, but the guest tap selection at BrewDog on the Mile was pretty impressive, too.

As a New Jersey resident, getting a kick out of these replies. For us, they're as ubiquitous a Greene King pub in London. Come to think of it, imagine Greene King sponsoring a minor competition over here? Me neither.

Love the Jackalope. That and the Barley Mow Marylebone are our two favorites in the area. Just finished an evening in York, many thanks to @Stadt and others here for the recs. Blue Bell, Golden Ball, Slip Inn, York Tap, Brew York, and more. Not my first time here, and certainly won’t be the last.

Windy day at Gullane, never tire of playing this course when visiting the area.

1 night in Edinburgh, 2 in York, and 1 in London in the days ahead. It's more of a work trip, but there will be time for golf in Scotland + great pubs and more in York. Been almost a decade since was last in York.

For those who missed it…

The early autumn lawn care routine is my favorite of household chores. Dethatched/scarified earlier this week, aerator today, then a mix of sand and soil to even out the low spots, followed by seed, fertilizer, and water. Dogs won’t be in the yard for a few weeks until the new grass takes hold. Will be sore tomorrow!

Spent the day working on a lawn renovation. Three hours with an aerator, new grass seed, dirt, and fertilizer was clearly far more productive than watching this drivel.

Off to York in two weeks time, first visit there in 8 years, surprisingly clear memories of York Tap from my last visit. Plenty of good recommendations in this thread already...Swan, Slip Inn, Brew York are all on the list.

There’s other possibly connected dealings over here with Boehly and Chelsea co-owner Mark Walter, who also owns the Lakers and the Dodgers, two of the biggest brands in all of sports. Walter is selling the Lakers less than 12 months after purchasing the franchise, as he’s under federal investigation. Boehly isn’t under investigation that I’ve read, but it’s worth monitoring that story. Watched the 2024 one with glasses. It wasn't so much about watching as it was the immersive experience. The temperatures plummeting, insects and other animals stopped making noise. For 3 minutes, it was dark in the middle of the day, and nature didn't know what to do. But yes, my wife couldn't have been less interested. Either you're all in on it, or its dumb.

Some chatter over here that players in the clubhouse who don't care for Bryson were the ones who pointed out his penalty to the R&A. I'm no Bryson fan, but for someone who is so methodical with his analysis and approach to the game, he can't plead ignorance when he got caught.
