Really?

This was being billed as a 6+ hammering prior to KO, the best team in Europe playing the team that have conceded the most goals in the premier league.

This was all about the defending and losing by 2 goals and not 6+ will give a huge amount  of confidence to the players regardless of losing the game.

The ‘reset’ comes from back to front, no point scoring 3 only to concede 4, of course they will be disappointed but come Sunday will be feeling a little taller than if they had been hammered 6+ for sure

Could've easily been 5-1...they hit the post and the bar. Also, they had 14 corners to one of ours. Liverpool had a so-so night yesterday, to be honest.

at times i wonder about our fan base

we win against West Ham, people still moan about the win

we lose at Liverpool, play better than we did previous, etc still moan cos it "looks like they didnt give it their all"

but i guess the theory a good team with the ball can make any team without look bad goes out the window

I don’t remember a time where there has been such a collective writing off of a football match from supporters and players.

I have read so many posts from supporters along the lines of

‘pleased it was only 3-1’

‘better than expected’

‘season won’t be defined by how we do at Anfield’

How have we become like this? We were in the bloody lead until the 45th min. Every chance of scrapping out a result if the supporters and players even half believed (or cared). Everton just got a point at Arsenal away from home. Is the gulf between those two sides much bigger than it is between us and Liverpool? I wouldn’t say so.

There are no such things as a free hit in professional sport. Particularly when you lose a 6 pointer 0-3 at home the week before.

The club really is at rock bottom. Soumare walking in the box, watching Jones run past him to score. Winks being easily brushed off the ball time after time in the second half. Daka being Daka, the bloke is atrocious. Yet another goal down our right, Justin seemingly incapable of just showing a player down his weaker side rather than selling himself (again). Allowing their back 4 to play keep ball more than ten minutes from full time, just watching and admiring them. We have no clue what to do with the ball when we have it. We can’t defend. Too many of them don’t care or believe enough and some of our supporters seem the same.

Watching these ***** week in week out gives us a fair idea of what they're made of.

Why would fans hold out any realistic hope when the players show they just aren't good enough and in some cases just don't care?

Our mentality in these games is terrible in general. Can't remember the last time we got a result at any of the big sides.

Since beating Liverpool at home on 28 December 2021, our record against the big clubs (discounting Tottenham) is:

W0 D2 L16 F11 A41 (including losing the last 14 games)

That said, only 5 of those games have been at home. In those 5 games at the KP, our record is W0 D0 L5 F2 A8

We’ve not scored a home goal v Man City since Ricky P’s late winner on Boxing Day 2018.

Whatever the view on the performance overall, I don't see how you can be happy watching your team, 3-1 down, just allowing the oppo to play out the last 15 mins without any effort to press, to make a last ditch attempt to get something out of the game.  There have been several instances this season of teams scoring 2 late goals; it's not impossible.

I watched it in disbelief and actually felt sick seeing such a tepid surrender.

Not sure anyone is happy with losing a game but sometimes you need to concede to realism.

Ruud conceded knowing we didn’t have anything that could unlock Liverpool in those moments without opening ourselves to a hammering, that’s why Winks and Bilal came off to save injury and be able to start tomorrow.

It’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity, in that moment it was better to lose by 2 goals than lose by 4+ considering where we are in the table & for all the ‘point is better than GD at the end of the season’ posters it’s not if that additional pt only puts you level with the club in 17th who have a better GD, swings & all that.

We had conceded 7 goals in 2 games, A point gained at Liverpool probably won’t have much bearing in our fight but a 4-6 goal stuffing could well do, especially as we host Man C next who at some point are going to recover and put 4 or 5 past someone. The potential of conceding 14-15 goals over 4 games would be catastrophic for GD & more importantly team confidence.

This is what I can’t understand about football fans v rugby fans who can accept that their team was beaten by the better team on the day.
I watched the Liverpool game, knowing full well the probability of a loss, only to watch the performance as I wanted to see a defensive fight and in the main I saw that & now against the inform team in Europe they have set the standard which yes now I’ll be mighty peev’d if they don’t continue with.

Look at the results Ipswich have got. Beaten Chelsea and Spurs, drawn with Man United and Villa. Yes have struggled in other games but ground has been made up. Every game is winnable in this league on our day and we have to believe that
