The English matchday culture these days seems to be mostly silence followed by shit unoriginal banter to the tune of sloop John b and shouting at the ref.

That’s one side to it. Doesn’t mean it should be completely written off.

which days?

Well, derby days for one, or games that have a lot riding on them. Forest’s home atmosphere in 22/23 almost single-handedly kept them up. Sunderland was one of the toughest places to go last season. Birmingham-Newcastle at St. Andrew’s springs to mind as well. Not to mention Leeds.

Seen a few posts from their fans complaining about their atmospheres this season. Happens to most clubs as soon as expectation starts to outweigh reality- us, Forest, Wolves, Stoke, Sheff United, Palace all had claims to having the best atmosphere in the PL at some point over the last 15 years or so, all fell off a cliff in the end.

Even the atmospheres at Newcastle, Sunderland, Villa and Leeds will generally be shite when the club's not on an upward trajectory.

English football culture is on its arse.

Ironically given the last few posts, palace is one of those clubs suffering a drop off in atmosphere which has been attributed to the lack of HP there now. Had a drum….no they don’t

All spells though aren’t they? Good atmosphere for a season or a certain game. Leeds have been very consistent for a while but their atmospheres in League 1 were very similar to that last night
