We're not though, are we? Our average attendance so far this season has been substantially higher than at the beginning of the 2010's despite now being in the league below. Not only do the attendance figures back this up, but if you watch clips of home games from that period, there were clearly far more empty seats. Hell, even the first half of the 3/14 season where we ended up winning the league at a canter we had lower attendances overall than this season.

Yes, we are.

Real attendances this season are our lowest since 95/96.

I don’t need to watch clips I’ve been going for 29 years.

Like @adejo92 has said you can either take these figures or continue guessing.

Or submit FOi’s.

The owners have removed any sense of character from the fan base. Whether that be pushing back on any tifo, to the manufactured mass flags or sterile atmosphere. We've had 6/7 years of them doing this and now we wonder why we don't have any soul

It's way more than this, but you are right.

It was annoying but isn't it a slight exaggeration that it will ''take you a long time to recover from''? I get it's the pits down at the KP but are we sometimes guilty of sensationalism a bit.

Presume you left at the 85th minute then? :)

I dont have much, but at least give me a bit of overdramatic hyperbole?

Think it’s harsh to judge atmosphere at the minute. Theres a lot that has happened with us as we all know, last night was very flat granted but there’s so many things that go into it. Once trust starts to builds between team and fan, it might improve.

You know what's crazy? I've just watched some of our highlights from our home games this season and it surprised me. It's actually emptier than I thought. From my perspective in the ground, it's not looked that empty. One big question I have to ask is, considering our published attendance figures for the League 1 season were regularly below 20,000, then surely those attendances were actually lower if they too were counting season ticket holders who didn't show and therefore lower than present? This is considering that you have claimed that there were around 19k vs Donny and would have been more against Peterborough given they had a full away end. Also, surely in the 08/09 League 1 days they would have had to count season ticket holders not in attendance because we were still on physical match tickets and season ticket books and therefore would not have been able to obtain actual attendance figures in real time? You can understand why it is very hard to believe that our actual average attendance is lower now than it was in league one last time, especially when you look back and see the blocks of empty seats at many of the games.

I think it really comes down to the fact that nearly all the fan base have lost faith in Russell Martin. Everyone knows labouring to a win against an awful wigan side , will lead to nothing as soon as we play a half decent side.

If we had sacked him after the Peterborough game, and got someone to replace him by the Doncaster game (hypothetically speaking). There would have been a positive  shift in the atmosphere.

I'm honestly going into these games with no hope, if we can beat Stevange on Saturday then the it would be interesting to see what the atmosphere is like for the Bradford game (pending RM doesn't lose to Oxford in-between).

It's so much deeper than the manager though. The whole place is just a depressing place to go filled with people who have had it up to the gills for years.

It won't change until the ownership does and we get a total change in philosophy down there.

What is really interesting is that at many football clubs there is a big sense of optimism when a failing ownership departs and a new one comes in. You can often see an upturn in attendances and improvement in atmosphere. I'm not convinced that happens with us though.

Yeah likewise. This idea a cloud lifts when they leave feels wishful thinking at best.

I think they’ve changed what’s reported over the last 10 years

Problem is they have such backing from the robotic fans that it might be even worse if we got new ownership.

But those fans don't vocally back the team now though, under the ownership they still apparently idolise.

So they'll go from being mute under King Power to being mute under the next ownership.

There are certainly some people that will return with a change in ownership. I just don't think the cloud will have been lifted like at other clubs though.

Depends on what percentage of the non robots we have...I reckon we're in a small minority.

But let's hope we find out.

But isn’t the singing section at least a bit lively?  I could them at the start last night on the telly.

Boca Juniors, Dynamo Dresden and Legia Warsaw say hello :)

The post wasn’t about European clubs, as it’s clearly a different culture.

Really? No English team has a good atmosphere and everyone else with a good atmosphere uses drums

There’s plenty of English teams without a drum that have a far superior atmosphere to ours.

Well that’s not hard, but good consistently? I doubt it.

Yeah they sing.

So do clubs here. It’s just a different culture, that’s the reality. English football gets talked down for atmosphere, but there’s still clubs around who showcase the very best of it.

The English matchday culture these days seems to be mostly silence followed by shit unoriginal banter to the tune of sloop John b and shouting at the ref.

That’s the difference in culture. Clubs who generate the best atmospheres here aren’t necessarily loud all game.
