Thracian Posted 24 December 2005 Posted 24 December 2005 a tank That reminds me of a true story I read not too long ago. Apparently this guy had a shop selling military collectables and an area outside just right for placing something eyecatching to attract a few buyers. Anyway the guy heard about an auction in Wiltshire where the MOD were selling Centurion Tanks and went down to take a look. They all looked the business and after enquiring the reserve he placed a bid hoping to get one and went home. Trouble is when he rang to enquire how he'd got on he learned to his horror that he'd bought not one but nine (I believe it was) which at 2mpg on the road or God knows how much to transport on a low loader represented one horrendous bill for extras. I never did hear the aftermath - whether he started his own army, got in trouble with the wife or what! Why so cheap? Can't vouch for this but the word I got was that such tanks are so strong and prohibitively expensive to dismantle that scrap specialists don't want to know and the Americans have apparently been known simply to dump em at sea off a barge.

Thracian Posted 24 December 2005 Posted 24 December 2005 Four husky pups.. I spent 18 months training my alsation and were the opportunity there I would have loved to train and race a team of sledge-pulling huskies across some Alaskan wilderness. Sadly Leicestershire is hardly the place to train the sledge team.
cisono Posted 24 December 2005 Posted 24 December 2005 I always wanted a computer of some sort, but never got one. Same here. My brother got one though... I also have a vivid recollection of a present I never got: When I was around 7, I was asked what I wanted (my parents took us to a large toy store, from which we could more or less choose our present). I was given a first and a second choice. I fell in love with a chemistry set, so my choices were: 1) a chemistry set ( ) 2) a tennis racquet (set) Guess what I got?!?!? PS: Bought myself a few electricity sets since, but still haven't got a chemistry set!
