Yeah but you see I dislike Israel more than any of those countries. 

 

Also, comparing Poland's new president to what Israel is doing is beyond "silly", it reveals your own biases and prejudices.

I can't stand Netanyahu and his cronies but I don't hold the entire country responsible for it, especially not when close to a million take to the streets and protest for peace and against their government.

 

I'm not comparing Polands president to what Israel is doing, I merely took him as a problematic example from the country of origin of another player of ours. And as far as being far right is concerned, Netanyahu and him do have stuff in common.

I'm just not of the opinion one should over generalise entire groups of people.

 

I don't expect every Muslim player who walks through our door to pledge allegiance to the LGBT flag just because of presumed homophobia. Neither should you let your hatred of Netanyahu taint your image of the average Israeli.

Marc Albrighton lost his partners Mother to a terrorist attack in 2015, did anyone actually call for sanctions against or blame the likes of Mahrez, Kante, Inler or Hamza, did FT go into melt down? People are allowed opinions and you can agree or disagree. just my VVHO but so much wrong in the world but holding someone to blame because of their place of birth or religion doe not mend or move on anything.

I know it’s descended into argument, which is perhaps inevitable whenever the topic is raised, but it’s been interesting to see the response given the opportunity of asking “what has/hasn’t Solomon done” because it’s not clear from a simple search.

Given he was an athlete playing for an Israeli club at the time of his enlistment, and the timing in late 2017 to early 2018, I think it's safe to assume that he didn't play a particularly major role. He most likely had a background job or physical training gig that was some way from the frontline in the West Bank or Gaza. The Israelis definitely wouldn't want the propaganda risk of a prominent athlete being killed, wounded or captured in action.

Thats what I want to know because of the little information I've picked up of what he's actually said regarding the matter, it's nothing overly offensive.

During the American led invasion of Iraq Americans travelling often pretended to be Canadian for obvious reasons. The fact is if you are seen to support, even tacitly support, your country's actions then people will judge you on that, rightly or wrongly. And your countrymen's actions taint you, as Irish in Britain will know and as South Africans will know.

 

Now I'm not saying that Solomon is necessarily a bad person or that he shouldn't play for us, but people will have more reservations at the moment about signing an Israeli or Russian player especially if that player has not explicitly condemned what their country is doing.

 

Worth remembering also Israel is judged obviously not just by the events post October 2023, but also what the country has been doing for decades.

 

One thing this thread shows is how many people have internalised the lie that Israel gets more criticism, and Israelis are more disliked, because they are Jewish.

Yes they have. A poster was replying to me basically asking "why don't you really like Solomon eh eh?" and called me bigoted.

 

Another poster talked about Islamic terrorism and attitudes towards Muslim players. The implication is clear.
