How you gonna stop it? Tickets paid for at that point is owned by th buyer….

In which case just do away with attendance figures full stop.

If the team are playing well, it will be full…..if they are playing poorly it won’t, it isn’t and no amount of debate will change that……build it and they will come……remember the Richter scale (Norwich at home unbelievable), compare it to Wrexham at home…….

Middlesbrough never could fill there ground even when they were in the premier league, even in the mid 00's when they had top seven finish playing in the uefa cup and won the league cup for the first time.

That's a bit harsh.    They filled the ground for the first 2 seasons in the Premier League (1998-2009), and for the 11 years, they averaged over 30,000 for 6 of the seasons.

ok.  not 100% capacity, but not bad in an area not exactly known for its affluence.

Why does this wind you up so much?

Well they're literally not true so what is the point of them? You might as well make a number up.

Replace 'attendance' with 'ticket sales' in your mind then you could sleep at night.

Blackburn Rovers i get difficult attachment in the north west. I can imagine in a town where a lot locals either support Liverpool, man utd and man city. Its same for Preston and Burnley round that neck of the woods. In fact when our last visit to Preston, on a matchday apart from Leicester fans... all i seen was Liverpool shirts around the city wasnt till i got closer to deepdale you seen more Preston fans.

Isn’t that town most places/cities in the UK apart from London?

Even walking around the city centre in Leicester you see a fair share of United/Liverpool tops.

Yeah it's been hurting me for years this one.

I think every football club (and probably Rugby Union and Rugby League, for that matter) have two sets of "attendance" figures.

The one they publicly quote is normally number of tickets sold.   Occasionally it will be the actual attendance when it would look stupid quoting anything else.   eg in 2012-13 The City quoted the MIddlesbrough snow-bound match as being about 8500 rather than the 23000 or so tickets that were probably sold.

The actual attendance is also noted, and this is what the safety authorities, police,  etc are interested in when predicting future requirements against past evets etc.    In the past there can be massive discrepancies between the two.   Some years back a survey was done, and one Premier League club quoted a crowd of 57,000 when it was in fact just over 35,000!
