Anyone doing this? Or done it?

Having jacked my corporate job in last year and trying to establish myself as a freelance, I've pretty much got carte blanche.

I'm a little old - and a bit too conventional - for the Bali / Da Nang / Change Mai trodden path

Wondered if anyone on here  works and travels and,.if so,  what your experiences, suggestions, tips might be....

Personally,.I'm looking at doing 2 months at a time working away,.maybe three times a year. So visas aren't a problem

Come join us in Sofia. Nice laid back city and a growing community of, ahem, 'expats'. Good base to explore the Balkans. I'd say attractive women as well but I don't want to sound like a sleazy Brit and my girlfriend occasionally browses this forum.

Nice..👍

Sofia actually came up on chatgpt a couple of weeks ago when I gave it a list of demands on; affordability/co working spaces/English spoken/dating.

You working remotely or got a job out there?

Remote working at the moment, though not much. A bit of teaching and editing. To be honest we moved back here just because we had a baby and my girlfriend owns a place. Might stay might not. Very very calm after eight years in London but the cost of living is quite high now and it's not an especially thrilling city.

If you do Eastern Europe for a bit maybe somewhere non EU would be better like Tbilisi or maybe even Pristina. Nowhere in East Europe is cheap and easy any more though.

My mate had just retired early, he and the Mrs are doing alternate 3 month stays in England and Spain. She runs her own business so, is remote working when in Spain.

A former work colleague has gone it alone in the world of Coding and has based himself in Lisbon which is apparently becoming very popular amongst digital nomads.

Not hard to see why, beautiful city, great climate year round, really affordable and close enough for him to pop home regularly...not jealous at all lol

Interesting idea but not for me I think. My friend did this in Bali for a few years, even bought a house. He said he came back as he was mentally cooked as everyday is the same. Mid 20s, daylight from 7-7, Groundhog Day. Made me think as my life has been completely different in winter and summer in the 3 countries I’ve lived in

I'm on the brink of doing this myself. The majority of my work is remote and I can easily make it to any UK / mainland Europe engagement when needed. My employer is mostly supportive, just need to work through the finer details with our HR department. Which I'm sure we'll overcome soon as there are a few different ways around it.

Moving to Latvia with my OH (where she's from) for a couple of years initially and will see which options appeal afterwards.

The locals aren't so happy though...
