You have to wonder if the weight of expectation was a little heavy for Canada.  They are the best team in the world but they never seemed to be able to finish to the level of their offensive talent.

Good days, bay days. No excuses we had our chances and didn't bury them.

Best team wins on the day.

I always say, it's not always easy playing for Canada. There's only one result that's accepted.

This was no "Miracle on Ice". The US have been right there with us for quite some time now.

Assuming Gretzky will be present at the White House for the trophy celebration?

I didn't even like seeing him in a booth there with a tiny Canada flag on.

Honestly lost all respect for this toss pot. Love his dad, he was Canadian through and through.

To be a friend of trump and claim you are Canadian, seriously give your head a shake.

No honorable Canadian would be Trumps buddy. But thats another story.

For now, this moment is yours to enjoy!

Was pulling for you guys today, so no celebration here. And now I’ll pipe down, lest I inadvertently turn this into the General News thread.

Canada were clearly the better team throughout, and I sort of think they just assumed they were going to win with the chances they were getting...

But I couldn't believe the lack of hustle in the 3 on 3. On that final play, 1 US player put in the effort to nick it from Makar, the 2nd should never have got to that puck first, and Hughes bust a gut to be in the right place. And the Canadians were ambling back. Looking at McDavid, there was no pace or urgency.

Very disappointed Celebrini couldn't stick away one of his chances to become a real superstar, but can't argue with the result given the way Hellebuyck played and the Canadians' lack of desire at the end.

Kind of sad when the Olympics end.

Really enjoyed watching as much of it as I could. Seeing the sports that I will only see every 4 years is really the best part. Always seems to be something new and interesting added to each edition of the games.

Italy did an excellent job as the hosts, as far as I could tell.

Congrats to all the winners and also to the losers. No one can really be the best at something without all the other people who aren't.

I enjoy the Winter Olympics more than summer. Perhaps it's the canuck in me lol.

That said, summer is sooner enough and we will be crying about Canada not getting many medals lol.

I’ve always enjoyed the Winter Olympics more. Way more exciting. I don’t watch nearly as much of the summer games.

Partly because there’s nothing else to do at that time of year? Or (as finally realized) these athletes can kill or seriously hurt themselves in the majority of winter events.

Perhaps it’s the sicko in me!

p.s. or maybe it’s just fun watching a country the size of Norway destroy the civilized world like their Viking ancestors.

This was a great Olympics even taking away how ridiculously happy I am about USA sweeping gold in hockey.

Everything I saw indicated this ran seamlessly despite the event hubs in different cities. Most things I’ve heard from athletes and fans about their experiences were overwhelmingly positive. After all the construction issues and delays with the hockey arena in Milan, the only noticeable problem seemed to be that their only beer selection was 10 oz Corona bottles.

I also think (aside from some of the poor AI art) that this Olympics integrated tech into it to enhance the viewing experience. The biggest example is the drone shots that made nearly everything look so much cooler, especially the skiing events.

Even the mascots were 10/10!

Also seeing some of the comments here got me thinking that one of the other reasons why a lot of us love the Winter Olympics might be because that it’s a lot easier to follow and process. That’s certainly the case with me. These games had 116 medal events in 16 sports. LA28 will have 353 medal events in 36 sports. I’m a sports sicko but even I have to admit the scale of Summer Olympics is just insanely huge, even for something that’s held every four years.

Don’t get me wrong, I still like the Summer Games, but I do so in a different way. In 2028 I’ll just think: OK Olympics, just bombard me with everything you’ve got and I’ll see if I can survive it.

With the Winter Olympics, I feel like I have enough time to enjoy everything and follow along with the storylines in all the events. It’s exciting sports drama, but besides crunch time in gold medal hockey games vs Canada, it proceeds at a pleasant pace. [edit: it helps when some of those aforementioned storylines are really funny… looking at you, biathletes.]
