TrickyTrev Posted 2 March 2006 Posted 2 March 2006 And to get the perfect balance, drop Becks and chuck Steve out on the right I would get Gerrard to play defencive midfield, but if we are going to take a player with the "holding role" in mind, it should be Carrick. He is a much more intelligent player and better passer than the other options. If Becks, Gerrard or Lampard were to get injured, Carrick could slip into the team easily as a replacement.
lush Posted 10 March 2006 Author Posted 10 March 2006 Runs a round like a headless chicken and does not have the discipline for the holding role. No Thankyou. i want Carrick to play in defencive midfield because he is an intelligent player and a very able two fotted passer. He is the player to provide the balance that we so crave. I agree with CB, SP is capable of playing. TT, souness for all his faults knows a hard man general, parker has it, as does carrick, but not lamps or gerrard. In friendlies, i`d play parker/carrick, alternatively with lamps/gerrard. I would take all four to germany and leave becks to snort out his "marridge".
Nationwider Posted 10 March 2006 Posted 10 March 2006 I think Parker could do a job too. Unfortunately, he won't be on the plane. Neither will Nolan or Barton. Sven's preferred XI, as stated by several others, will be Robinson, Neville, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole.A*, Cole.J, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney and Owen*. In the departure lounge as well are James, Carragher, Crouch, Carrick, King, Bridge*, the other Neville, King, SWP. Then he's just got to call between Sol Campbell*/Wes Brown*, Darren Bent/Jermaine Defoe and Owen Hargreaves/Jermaine Jenas ( ) and Rob Green/Chris Kirkland*. Personally, it beggars belief that Sven would take either Hargreaves or Jenas over the three at the top of the page. I'm not happy with some of the others either, but Sven's the man, and we won't win.

The Reverend Posted 4 May 2006 Posted 4 May 2006 ---------------Robinson--------------- Carragher------Terry------Ferdinand ----------------Carrick----------------- Becks---Gerarrd---Lampard---Lennon ----------J.Cole------------------------- -----------------Owen------------------ This is the perfect formation! The only minor, minor weakness is Joe cole playing behind Owen. If Rooney played there, it would easily be the best team in the world! Could also swop Lennon for Downing if he isnt ready.
Mark Posted 7 May 2006 Posted 7 May 2006 This is my team assuming Rooney don't make it in time for the group stages, Owen best make it else we're well and truly fecked. I dispise 4-5-1 but I don't want to see Peter Crouch starting games for us in the World Cup. Can anyone else of the strikers partner Owen though? We've haven't even experimented to find out, so at the moment no. As a sub Crouch is a good option but not to start with. As long as Lennon and J. Cole don't drop back into midfield and just play behind Owen I think it could work with Gerrard and Lampard joining the attack also. ................................Robinson........................................ Neville ............ Terry .............. Ferdinand ............. A Cole ...................Gerrard ... Carrick ... Lampard Lennon ............................................................ Ric Flair Posted 8 May 2006 Posted 8 May 2006 I would play the formation that Chelsea play if Rooney isn't fit. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Robinson Neville >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ferdinand >>>>>>>>>>>> Terry >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> A Cole >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Carrick >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Beckham >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Lampard >>>>>>>>> Gerrard >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> J Cole >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Owen I would also include either Lennon or Walcott on the bench as impact players along with Crouch.

BartonFox Posted 15 May 2006 Posted 15 May 2006 How can Rio Ferdinand be considered ahead of Jamie Carragher? Ferdinand is a sand dancing poof who wouldn't know how to put his bollocks on the line for his country if his life depended on it. Jamie Carragher is by far and away a more complete footballer than that clown. That said I hope Sven does pick the over hyped donkey I love this, everyone shoe-horning people in because of perceived stature as opposed to footballing talent. England should line up as follows: GK - Robinson RB - Neville LB - Bridge (he's been playing recently) CB - Carragher CB - Terry RM - Lennon LM - Cole CM - Lampard CM - Gerrard CM - Carrick CF - Crouch He won't do it because all the hooray Henry's and Felicity's who will populate the pubs (as well as the thick-witted media) would be up in arms at precious David Beckham not getting a game.

dandannieldanok Posted 22 May 2006 Posted 22 May 2006 You wouldnt risk our best player even if he was declared fit? Would you against Paraguay, what if he picked up a needless injury in a potentially 'easy' game. If we are worried about not beating them then we shouldn't even think about getting close to the final.

Cobbo Posted 23 May 2006 Posted 23 May 2006 -----------------------Robinson Neville--------Ferdinand------Terry-------A Cole Beckham-----Carrick---------Lampard----J Cole -----------------Gerrard -------------------------------Owen I'm sure someone else has already picked that team but I think it's pretty decent, option of changing Rio for Carragher/Campbell depending on how the warm up matches go.
