Babylon Posted 20 July 2004 Posted 20 July 2004 What complete and utter twaddle. Our likely team (inc subs) for the first game of the season will include: Stewart 22 Williams 23 Canero 23 Heath 23 Morris 24 Connolly 27 (when he signs) Wright et. al will also be brought through slowly this year and integrated into the squad via league cup games and appearances as sub. How young do you want our squad to be ? Morris? If he's ever fit. Heath - Crap. Connolly - If he signs - Not taking anything for granted...... if keown is to old and heath to shit..... who are we supposed to play as we cant really buy anyone can we?????? Out of our probable starting team the players who would need replacing next year are Dublin, Keown, Nalis, Wilcox. The others are only 31 i think so they could play for another 2 maybe 3 years. Any team going up expects to replace about 5 first teamers anyway!!!
Mark Posted 20 July 2004 Posted 20 July 2004 Nice another 1 year contract past it with no pace who's first sending off and injury is only a matter of time away.
87fox Posted 20 July 2004 Posted 20 July 2004 Heath is up to it. You can hardly say that it was down to him that we got relegated, take away all our bad luck last year and we would have finished comfortably in the league and then he would have been part of a defence that had done OK in the Premier League. I suppose you would say Radebe/Dubbery or Matteo are better than Heath? But they played in a Leeds defence that conceded about 20 more goals than ours did last year with our supposedly rubbish partnership of Heath and Dabizas. Now; yes - I know Heath and Dabizas didn't play all of last year for us; many other players played in those positions. However I am suggesting that continuity and lack of a continuous partnership may have been the reason we conceded so many goals last year and IMO we certainly looked better at the back when Hetah and Dabizas were given a run alongside each other in the team. I am not saying Heath is marvellous, brilliant or even a very good player. He is a decent player; he is maturing as a player and will get better. Certainly by having Keown at the club he will progress even more. I think you are completely over-reacting by calling him Crap.

Any team going up expects to replace about 5 first teamers anyway!!! I have not slated the Keown signing - I think he will do an excellent job (sick of saying this now). I'm just concerned at Micky's strategy of filling the squad full of players ovr 30. Dabizas and Keown should be the centrebacks. Need replacing? Some of this will be enforced anyway due to contracts expiring: Walker Elliott Keown Dabizas Nalis Scowcroft Wilcox Dublin Unless Micky offers the players in question new contracts, 8 player comprise a significant part of the squad. And even if we did go up, yes, new players would have to be brought in, but because so many would be released, we would need to replace those players, so it would be much more than 5. We would be in the same position as when we got promoted last season.

Look back on my posts, I didn't say that. That's my opinion of him. He doesn't have the ability to become a top level defender, he just doesn't have the technical ability. The game has evolved where defenders are expected to distribute the ball more comfortably. Playing someone like Heath is a liability as he's likely to put us in dodgy situations with his poor distribution. Although, he will get away with it in the Championship.

I know you didn't explicity say you blamed him for our relegation but by saying he is crap your are inferring that if he was part of the reason we went down because a 'crap' centre back is going to be a liability to a team.

The whole team was crap last year - I'm not inferring anything. What I am saying is that from what I've seen of Heath so far, he will not be good enough. Every player that played was part of our relegation - It's a team game. But some players are more of a liability than others.
Mark Posted 20 July 2004 Posted 20 July 2004 Dabizas and Keown will be a nightmere. Neither of them can run. At least Heath is slightly faster even if he isnt a great player. Them two in defence are too clumsy, Dabizas is forever fouling and Keown well we know Keown elbows here and there he aint the player he was but thats why he's here, last pay packet. Heath and Keown i could live with but Dabizas is obviously going to play cause Micky dont do suprises.

Ash Posted 20 July 2004 Posted 20 July 2004 Im happy he has signed as a coach aswell , but if it was just a playing role then i wouldnt really want him i would of profered Mawene !
gagandeep Posted 20 July 2004 Posted 20 July 2004 Im happy he has signed as a coach aswell , but if it was just a playing role then i wouldnt really want him i would of profered Mawene ! i would have liked both, but keown will help stearman and heath progress, i can see them two being our defence in a couple of years, with canero right back, and if jordan plays as he can, the left back. would be a wiked defence.
BMR Posted 20 July 2004 Posted 20 July 2004 good signing, need leadership on and OFF the field, he may well do it for us, our other signing today is of course simply awesome......get in there!!!!!
Matt Posted 20 July 2004 Posted 20 July 2004 To be fair, whilst watching the Arsenal v Leicester game at the end of the season I said "We should sign Keown" - I said this a joke, and a joke is all I thought it would be, I am quite happy with this signing actually and look at it this way petrescu, He's a coach aswell
Ricey Posted 20 July 2004 Posted 20 July 2004 Heath is poor, I really can't see how anyone would pick him ahead of Dabizas or Keown! Dabizas isn't slow, Keown is but Dabizas ain't.

Guest Guest Posted 21 July 2004 Posted 21 July 2004 Trust you to moan Petrescu. He´s a quality player and will be great for us. A league winner x3 and FA cup winner, but he aint 16 so you wont be creaming over him.
