Cobbo Posted 19 October 2004 Posted 19 October 2004 Pressman - 8 - What a save! Doubt we'll ever see a better one Bit dodgy on the crosses, but that save was amazing Makin - 5 - Crap, distribution was terrible, backed out of a few tackles. His throw ins seemed crap in the second half too, but maybe that was the slippy ball... Stewart - 7.5 - Good game best I've seen him play maybe....Showed good pace, positional sense, looking a much better full back! God knows what he was doing for their first goal though, he seemed to duck under it Keown - 7 - Marshalled the defense well most of the time (not the first minute ) and made some important tackles and interceptions. Distribution wasn't great and at times he over played the ball a bit. I think he'll be a little disappointed. Heath - 8 - Would have been a 9 if not for that blooming og seemed easier to head it away. Other than that he won a lot in the air and positionally looked good. Cracking first goal too Scowcroft - 7 - Didn't win as much as usual in the air as Wilnis had been put in to stop him winning so much. But did flick on a couple very well, one for Connolly's goal. Was good with the ball on the deck too, looked quick at times Tiatto - 7 - Always works hard, gets stuck in and has a cool head on the ball. Doesn't keep his shape all that well, but I thought it was another decent display from the little aussie. Williams - 7 - Looked good, another improved performance knocked the ball into space well and worked hard. Seemed to get his foot in at vital times too. Nalis - 7.5 - Always offered himself as an outlet ball in the middle and sprayed his usual variety of balls around. A couple of dodgy headers at times. Unlucky that a couple of his shots got blocked that may well have been going on target. Dublin - 6 - Showed a couple of good touches (especially the flick for Williams) and a lot of bad ones. Aerial ability in attack seems lacking, but defending from set pieces it's very good, would have liked him on for the last few set pieces... Connolly - 9 - Great game especially in the last half of the first half. Great touches, passes and shots. Showed some good pace too. Best I've seen him play, hopefully more to come! Subs: Gudjonsson - 6 - Did ok when he came on, closing down etc. Think we did miss Williams though. Benjamin - 6 - Energetic, closed people down, didn't really get a chance to do much though.
Hullfox Posted 19 October 2004 Posted 19 October 2004 Williams - 4 27820 That is quite possibly the worst bit of marking that I have ever seen. The boy done good tonight.
Anish Posted 19 October 2004 Posted 19 October 2004 Yeah I agree. Williams offered some attacking options from midfield that nobody else did, and we definitely missed him when he went off. Hope the injury isn't too serious.

The boy done good tonight. 27838 If that was good then heaven help us, I watched the guy intently for a twenty minute period when we were playing reasonalbl well and to me it looks like he's hiding he follows the ball around, always ensures he's standing right next to his marker when we've got the ball, never ever looks to take a pass, to slow to react when he gets the ball. I think I saw him make his first ever tackle tonight and actually come away with the ball. He may have pleanty off ball skills, he may put in the occaisional pass but Ive yet to be convinced that he's a professional footballer worth the £5000K aweek we are paying him. I've seen some excellent midfielders in my time at Leicester Gibson, McKlintock and Roberts through Keith Weller and John Sammels to Lennon and Izzett and this guy, as yet is not fit to clean their boots. If that is the worst marking you have seen then I'm happy because in my opinion that was a miserable, weak, lackadaisical and unworthy performance.

People need to realise that Williams isn't a grafter, he's a player who needs a grafter alongside him. Why can't people realise this? Alot of City fans can't accept if a player doesn't run round like a headless chicken and constantly get stuck in, reason why is because we've compensated for talent with graft over the years. Williams is the best passer of the ball we've had in ten years. Better than Izzet at passing, better than Lennon and Savage with the ball. Infact he's too good for Leicester, if you stuck him in a team who relied on passing as their style you would see how good he is. Players can still play well even if they don't run round like a headless chicken. Does Zidane, Joe Cole, Maradona ever get stuck in? Not really mate, not that Williams is as good as those but i'm fed up with people slagging Williams off because he's not a grafter. Your not a plumber davie but I wouldn't slate you for it.
Ricey Posted 20 October 2004 Posted 20 October 2004 Everyone has marked Makin really low, was he that bad?
Ric Flair Posted 20 October 2004 Posted 20 October 2004 Pressman 8 - Good grief i've never seen a better shot stopper in my life. If only he was ten years younger, slimmer and did the easy things right. Steady game though and two unreal saves. Makin 6 - His throwing was horrible, he gave the ball away alot too. Did well getting forward though and his crossing is dangerous. Heath 7 - Good couple of goals, still scares me at the back though. Keown 7 - He's a rock, gave the ball away twice though but made up for it. His reading of the game scares me, he see's things before they happen. Stewart 8 - Wow!! Great performance, looked like he wanted it. Defended well, got forward well too. Unlucky not to score, excited by the possibility of seeing him reach his potential. Scowcroft 7 - I thought Scowy was damn good last night, he even looked quick at times. Great shot from him aswell when he cut in and blasted with his left foot. Had a hand in both goals, did well. Nalis 7 - Was everywhere, spreading the ball about. Chasing and closing down when not in possession, he was looking to both flanks at every opportunity. Williams 7.5 - This dude is one hell of a passer, the best passer in the league by far. Good going forward, creates openings a tin opener couldn't. Never going to graft and chase, but who needs to when we've got Tiatto and Nalis. Tiatto 8 - Another sweet performance and didn't get booked, bonus! He's everywhere and is so good on the ball it's scary. Unlucky not to score and it's essential he plays every game for us. Make him captain. Dublin 5 - Horrible again! Useless, can't win anything in the air. Some nice touches on the deck, but he doesn't help Connolly at all. Knackered after 30 mins aswell, I think he should be used sparingly. Connolly 9* - Connolly has entered the building. At last we've seen the beast unleashed, he was on fire after his goal. Unlucky not to score a few more, but he is so good technically we need another good striker alongside him. I think the goals are about to flow for the little man. Subs: Benjamin 6 - Did ok, looks better than Dublin. Gudjonsson 6 - Steady when he came on. We were under pressure for the majority of his time on the pitch, but he never let us down.

I've no doubt that Wiiliams has bags of skill and potential and that's what annoys me because if you watch him closely he hides and doesn't look for the ball, when he gets it he often looks surprised and reacts to slowly. Sure he can pass, sure he has some vision but he's got to look to boss the midfield, call the tunes and that doesn't mean running around like a headless chicken - that's what Tiatto does, yes I think Williams can be the best player in this team, that should make him man of match more often than not, but he got a 4 from me for wasting his undoubted talent.

I just think that considering the way we've been playing before last night with the long ball and it bypassing the midfield. We haven't seen the real Williams and last night we saw the performances he is capable of. You are right in the fact that he doesn't boss the midfield and I am unsure whether he ever will, I just think that if he continues to play like he did last night and perhaps improve each game then I think we've got a useful player in the team. If we start to play more fluently as a team and pass it about well then I think Williams will improve more and more. I know these if's and but's don't have any effect on Williams rating last night, but myself along with many other fans thought Williams had an excellent game last night.

Overall I would say, that was actually an enjoyable, watchable game last night, the first for me this season. However if you're talking about views on Gregory as an acceptable face for LCFC then I do have very strong views and principles that I'm not prepared to back down on and to me he's totally unacceptable. (sorry to change the subject but it was done to put the ratings question into perspective).
