Knighton Matt Posted 28 May 2006 Posted 28 May 2006 Argh seriously can't be bothered! I can do more with the radio on as I'm slightly less bored but then can't take as much in! It's ironic learning about theories of motivation (Taylor, Maslow etc) when you have no motivation at all!
Stuliasz Posted 28 May 2006 Posted 28 May 2006 Horrible aint it! I'm currently studying for an exam about computer law and ethics. Boring as hell but I have quite a few retakes in the summer anyway so I have the motivation of making sure I don't have any more. Other than that I can understand your difficulty in finding motivation as I have always been the same.

Now I'm working it's different as techincally I can be sacked if I fail my exams and I get a payrise for passing them but still it doesn't seem to act as motivation to do well wither way!

That Hierachy of needs stuff is a load of rubbish!
Knighton Matt Posted 28 May 2006 Author Posted 28 May 2006 I had to learn all those crap theories as well. That Hierachy of needs stuff is a load of rubbish! The original Maslow's Hierarchy of needs had 'sex' as a basic need which is cut from the modified versions you see in today's textbooks. Surely that shows how rubbish the theory is? He's saying if you aren't getting laid you can't be motivated at work whatever happens as your most basic needs are unfulfilled!
syston_fox Posted 28 May 2006 Posted 28 May 2006 Have you looked at the Hawthorne studies too? Now they were a waste of time with all that stuff saying you will work harder with the lights turned right down so long as someone is studying your behaviour. Who actually dreams up these ideas of turning lights off to see how production is affected???

Who actually dreams up these ideas of turning lights off to see how production is affected??? Yeah what a load of clap trap. We interviewed 20,000 workers and found they had complex needs and valued being consulted. Cheers Boris I could have told you that.

Bert Posted 28 May 2006 Posted 28 May 2006 I had a retake exam on friday (english) which i spent a while revising for, and i cracked on with the first question, then it came to someone's attention that the book we had been studying, that the question for that book wasn't in there! So the school rang the exam board and told us to have all the time on the 1 question that was actually in the paper, that it wasn't our fault!! They said they're going get back to us soon!! I was well annoyed at the time, but what can i do about it?
holly Posted 28 May 2006 Posted 28 May 2006 gunna try and get some done today, have finished my exams, but its more than likely i will have to retake it sooo i am thinking if i do some i might actually pass it this time

We can walk out any time after the first 30 minutes and before the last 15. I had one in January, so that's 10 overall this year. Gah. Next year though I'll only have 6 exams, not too shabby for a finalist doing MORSE.
