Ric Flair Posted 11 November 2004 Posted 11 November 2004 After an excellent performance on monday and with a few players out injured what is our best team and formation? Williams and Keown will be back soon and do they deserve to walk straight back in? Personally I think our best team with everyone fit is as follows: 4-4-2 Walker Canero Keown Heath Stewart Gillespie/Morris Nalis Williams Tiatto Connolly Scowcroft Subs: Stearman, Gudjonsson, Wright, Morris/Gillespie, Pressman 3-5-2 Walker Keown Stearman Heath Canero Williams Nalis Tiatto Stewart Connolly Scowcroft I'm not sure what's more stronger though? Before monday's game i'd say we would be better off with 3-5-2 system but we looked excellent on monday with 4-4-2 so I see no reason why we need to swap.
Benji Posted 11 November 2004 Posted 11 November 2004 4-4-2 ----------------walker-------------------- canero-----heath-----dabizas------tiatto morris------nalis-----gudjohnsson---stewart ------------connolly----scowcroft-------- i think keown is too good for our defense.... he thinks too quick for our level and many times this season we've seen the offside trap not work from the other defenders not keeping alert and conceed from it. williams....i'm still not sure with him. he's a quality player but doesnt play too well with nalis and nalis is playing superbly recently so you can't drop him but perhaps levein can inspire him to play like he can and then him and nalis will work really well together? its a nice problem to have anyway! if 3-5-2 then problem solved: ------------------------walker------------------------ -------stearman------heath-------tiatto----------- canero-----williams-----gudjohnsson---nalis-----stewart and so joey breaking nalis and williams from getting in each others way ---------scowcroft/morris----------connolly---------
Mark Posted 11 November 2004 Posted 11 November 2004 When you play 3-5-2 we can put out better quality players but whether that'll work better than 4-4-2 is questionable. So my current 4-4-2 team would be: Pressman Canero Dabizas Heath Stewart Gillespie Nalis Dawson Tiatto Connolly Morris Obviously we desperately need a right winger and a striker. Every other position on the pitch looks ok, but we need a partner for Connolly and a better option than Gillespie on the right. Get a few loanees in Craig.
Teeno Posted 11 November 2004 Posted 11 November 2004 Can't understand why you'd play Morris ahead of Scowy. What about 2 goals in 17 games man. Scowy has scored more than him playing from right mid and has been one of our better players this season.

Anyway lets not make this into another thread about him.

Ash Posted 11 November 2004 Posted 11 November 2004 What ive saw so far this season our best team is 4-4-2 Walker Makin Keown Heath Stewart Tiatto Williams Nalis Canero Connolly Scowcroft Subs : Stearman Pressman Gillespie Gudjonsson Wright
Teeno Posted 11 November 2004 Posted 11 November 2004 What ive saw so far this season our best team is 4-4-2 Walker Makin Keown Heath Stewart Tiatto Williams Nalis Canero Connolly Scowcroft Subs : Stearman Pressman Gillespie Gudjonsson Wright 34930 I would switch Tiatto and Stewart around, Jordan is much better in midfield and of late has looked very good. At the minute I'dplay Joey ahead of Williams as I don't think he has done much to deserve a place. I'd like to see Canero play right mid aswell, but Makin and Levein don't seem to be best of freinds so I think Canero will be his no1 right back. and morris/Gillespie played down the right.

Anish Posted 11 November 2004 Posted 11 November 2004 My team would be playing 4-4-2: Walker Canero Heath Dabizas Stewart Tiatto (doesn't keep his position well enough to play defence, and playing midfield allows him to wander and get stuck in) Nalis Gudjonsson Gillespie Connolly Scowy
Hoof Fox Posted 11 November 2004 Posted 11 November 2004 Walker Canero Keown Heath Stewart Morris Nalis Williams Tiatto Scowcroft Connolly Subs Pressman Stearman Gudjonsson Gillespie Benjamin

He's played better now Micky has gone that is obvious to everyone. He has only performed bad for us under Micky Adams management, like a lot of players.
Scow Posted 12 November 2004 Posted 12 November 2004 Walker Canero / Keown / Stearman / Stewart Gillespie / Nalis / Dawson / Tiatto Connolly / Scowcroft
shen Posted 12 November 2004 Posted 12 November 2004 isnt it a bit risky to play 2 youth players with little first team experience in the central axis ?
Scow Posted 12 November 2004 Posted 12 November 2004 isnt it a bit risky to play 2 youth players with little first team experience in the central axis ? 35111 Not when you have two experienced players like Keown and Nalis helping them out. Compliment ability and energy with experience.
shen Posted 12 November 2004 Posted 12 November 2004 why have Dawson instead of Gudjohnsson and Stearman in for Heath?.. I know they both have a lot of potential, but Joey and Matty are both young as well and could do with first team football at such a crucial stage. They'd be more composed than the younger two who still have time on their side IMO...

Watched him about 3 times this season, and he's been excellent in every game. He has all the attributes for an all round midfielder. Limitless energy, great passer of the ball, good tackler, and a powerful shot. I'm of the opinion that he would adapt to first team football with ease. He has the ability. Stearman on the other hand deserves a chance sooner or later. Again, he's been excellent in the reserves, you ask anyone who seen him play, he is class. Can play in midfield too, very much like Rio Ferdinand. Matt Heath is poor in all honesty, he does a solid job, but often his lack of technical ability puts us in trouble. An average Championship defender.
shen Posted 12 November 2004 Posted 12 November 2004 Well you're reasoning is good, but reserves football is very different to league football..of course theres no other way to find out if theyre good enough, but I would be happy to wait until CL feels he acn fully assess the squad...and I doubt he will be able to do that after only a week...
Scow Posted 12 November 2004 Posted 12 November 2004 I understand that, it will take him a while to assess what he's got at his disposal. Of course reserve team football is different to first team football, but Dawson and Stearman have been playing amongst fellow academy players in the reserves against opposition teams with alot of experience. They have coped extremely well, and are often the best players on the pitch. I don't think they will be involved straight away, but I feel in time they will show Levein they have the talent and composure to make the step up. They are certainly good enough.

Dawson is getting man of the match in about every reserve match this season and has already been called up to the Ireland Under 21 squad, so you could argue he atleast deserves a chance. Stearman is just the business, if he doesn't play for England then i'll retire from football (watching) as he's one of the best prospects i've seen at 17.
